Let's be honest, do replies do anything?

You have the instant messenger right there replies are automatically obsolete you could always comment on a post don't see why this is so hard, and you can send an ask to somebody, so you have three different ways to contact somebody to tell them whatever about a post but you need replies because reasons where is the logic?
