Defining most of the styles I see on here is something else that makes my brain do crunching noises... I’d generally go for realism for you, yeah

It generally is really down to luck.  Which sucks.

Tumblr sucks.

Because yeah, I run into the same thing with my art, and people follow me (among other things) because I’m a good networker and I find a lot of art, and it’s so hard not to take it personally when my own stuff doesn’t spread.

Normally, the numbers work out that anybody gets about 2% follower interaction with a post (if I make a personal post, I can expect normally less than 1% of my follower count to interact, and that’s fairly steady up through bnfs and larger blogs outside of the fandom.  There are some rarer individuals who get higher interactions, but not by much.)  And generally speaking, you don’t get that much better of a result for reblogs.

And the numbers are worse for art.  This fandom tends to hit saturation around 500-2k notes (despite the fandom being a lot larger than that...) for a “cycle” (by that I mean that most art is only passed around for between 1-2 weeks, and then it’s basically dead until someone digs it up).  If a piece is really popular it can hit 5-8k - but that’s almost never realism/photorealism stuff, it’s usually comic style.  I think it’s around 5% of all interactions with a post for art will be reblogs, unless you happen to hit a lot of people’s kinks - it’s been a while since I ran the math on that one.

The math sucks.

Personally I just make things for my friends at this point.  There’s a handful people that interact with my art regularly, and I’ve decided I have to be okay with it.
