The oldest known bristlecone pine (Pinus longaeva), estimated to be 4852 years old, is found in Inyo National Forest, Madera Co, California. ca. 2020

This is a photo of my favorite Bristlecone Pine tree, somewhere in the White Mountains of California. I must have over 100 photos of this tree - multiple cameras, multiple sensors and multiple film emulsions. This photo is one of my favorites.
While it may look like the tree is dying, Bristlecone Pine trees contain both living and dead parts. Damaged areas are sectioned off by the tree in order to save the rest of the tree. This tree can be up to 2,000 years old.
