The Four - TFSMP Elemental Quartet (Shelby, Drift, Pyro, Scott) Lore Book
They called us the Fourfold Guard. Seren carried ice magic, calm and sharp as winter glass. Kaela burned with fire magic, bright enough to turn fear into courage. Mira held earth magic in her hands, strong enough to split streets and raise walls from stone. Aveline commanded wind magic, fast as arrows, wild as storms. Alone we were powerful. Together we were a disaster for anything corrupted. When the Storm Ravens came for the capital, Aveline dragged them from the sky with screaming winds. Seren froze their wings mid-flight. Kaela shattered them with fire so hot the ice exploded into steam. When twisted beasts charged through the smoke, Mira opened the ground and buried them beneath the city stones. We moved like one body. Wind fed fire. Fire melted ice into blinding mist. Ice hardened earth into spears. Earth gave wind dust and stone to throw like knives. For three days we held the road beneath the shield tower. Then the shield faltered. The corruption poured through in a black wave. Bigger than anything we had faced. Aveline was the first to fall, torn from the air whilst laughing one last challenge at the storm. Seren froze herself solid around a breach, sealing it with her own body. Kaela burned until her heart gave out, leaving a ring of white fire no monster dared to cross. Mira stood alone at the end, hands buried in the road, dragging hundreds of corrupted things down with her. By sunrise, the Capital still stood. But the Fourfold Guard did not. Only their magic remained: frost on the tower steps, ash in the wind, cracked stone beneath the gate and a breeze that still whispers their names.

It's good that our finest minds have focused on automating writing and making art, two things human beings do simply because it brings them joy. Meanwhile tens of thousands of people risk their lives every day breaking down ships, a task that nobody is in a particular hurry to automate because those lives are considered cheap https://www.dw.com/en/shipbreaking-recycling-a-ship-is-always-dangerous/a-18155491 (Headline: 'Recycling a ship is always dangerous.' on Deutsche Welle) A world where computers write and make art while human beings break their backs cleaning up toxic messes is the exact opposite of the world I thought I was signing up for when I got into programming

btw, you can be a part of many wonderful research projects through Zooniverse. Especially if you can read cursive, there often are transcription projects in need of people who can read cursive. Or! if you like fish, there are fish ID projects where you can count how many/what type of fish there are in a specific clip. Also I particularly enjoy that it keeps your stats across projects. My current stomping grounds are the Moss Herbarium from FloraDiva, Notes from Nature, and Wild Mont-Blanc, but I am also eyeing the Weather Archive Africa one.
(I almost posted this without a link) Take a gander at these projects and get involved!
The Zooniverse is the world's largest and most popular platform for people-powered research.
