Brown creatures 🤎
the palest Dilta i've ever seen did me the courtesy of showing up on a relatively sunny day (by january standards) so i could see its scales are just as iridescent as its darker cousins'. go white boy go

today's invertebrate.........machilis albida
a long time ago he constructed some stairs, but not just any stairs. these stairs are the stairs to infinity that will take you to another land, another world beneath the stars but above space. he will stare at you, begging you to take the stairs and see where you end up, but not with words, as he speaks in thoughts in a language that you are both able and unable to understand
if you refuse to take the stairs then he'll give you the driest, nastiest stink eye and beat you to death (he has some mild anger issues)
........jollyness rating: 1%-75.7% they're his life's work. don't fail him

a quick turnaround of a bristletail (Dilta sp.) showing how iridescent the scales are under proper sunlight - if you cover one of these guys with your shadow and take an identical photo, it'll be all brown, but as this one was catching some rays on an old wall, the slightest movement created all sorts of hues. i'm a fan of the greens personally

although bristletails (Archaeognatha) are probably my favorite insects and some of my favorite animals in general, these blurry outtakes are not meant to showcase their shrimp-like beauty but to demonstrate what happens to all those floppy parts when one is sitting completely still on a really windy day

Ew, ew, ew
I just stripped the sheets off my bed and in the corner, I thought it was a feather until it started moving.
There was a silverfish in my bed.
They’ve only been in the bathrooms and kitchen until now (I have the en suite so that’s probably why it was in my room but that’s still a long distance to cover jesus). Ugh. We have an exterminator coming August 11. I don’t want to risk this getting bad.
I fucking hate bugs.
