NIGHT MAIL (1936)

This is my favourite documentary--- a ride-along on the British postal train from London to Glasgow.   From ingenious ways of picking up and dropping off mail to sorting while standing on a swaying train to the magical way that switching of tracks of occurs we are given a rare glimpse of a world steeped in tradition and on the edge of disappearing.   William Auden’s poem Night Mail is the core of the narration, well read and gripping.  Benjamin Britten’s score is brilliant.   Some good innovation in filming techniques.   Always enjoyable.

I love British documentaries!

that last rant was mostly about Mormonism, and the documentary wasn't about polygamy but more about Mormon values and stuff. And how it, in my eyes, hurts the term "polygamy" I just watched a documentary called 'polyamory - Hidden Lives: three in bed' and I really recommend it if anyone wants to find out about polygamy. it's literally the first non-judging, non-Mormonism documentary about polygamy. at some point, one of the three poly relationships a male calls his mom and says "what...is it because of a religious thing", which point out the obvious in this documentary: it's not connected to religion in any way! the guy loves them both, and the girls love each other and the guy. They treat each other equally, share the same bed and can't imagine if any of the three would break up with the other 2 I'm all for this! This really lifted my mood! and now, bedtime ^__^ good night lovelies, sorry for being so grumpy all day :S
