‘The fly-fisherman of the Dorset Stour are celebrated in this warming beer with ginger overtones, rumoured to remedy the bites of the infamous Blandford Fly.’
Automatically from even the slightest, sip this ale sensitively sets your taste buds alight with the ever so prominent ginger overtones basking in the flavour of this drink. I felt an immediate familiarity with the taste as it almost instantly reminded me of the flavour of a Jamaican Gingerbread!
However it is not an overpowering taste, but rather well balanced. It is a very enjoyable ale, smooth and easy drinking. This certainly would taste spectacular after a long days fishing in the sun.
This ale will certainly score highly for individuality and uniqueness, I’ve certainly never tasted anything like it.
I don’t think I would have this as a go to ale quite often, but it is certainly something to go for if you fancy something new and different, that you’ve likely never tasted before, as my first ever Badger ale, I’m rather impressed!
Quality: 7.5 - I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, I was tempted to rate at an 8. But certainly a lovely smooth, easy drink that I will certainly remember!
Uniqueness/Individuality: 9.5 - All I can say is I’ve never come across anything quite like it! Maybe that’s because I’m rather inexperienced with the South of England ales?
Overall; 8.5. I think any less would be unjust, this ticks all the boxes for what I like in an ale, easy drinking, nice and smooth, unique flavour yet not overpowering and no harsh overtones.
A wonderful ale to kick off the reviews; I would highly recommend this!
