Felinette Month Day 4
Love stinks
“Felix!” Marinette ran to him, pressing an easy kiss to his cheek before hugging him tight.
“Hello Netta.” He placed his chin on top of her head and closed his eyes, content.
“Yeah, yeah, we get it lovebirds.” Alya rolled her eyes from behind Marinette, holding her bag, which she must have dropped in her haste to embrace him. “You’re dating. Now can we get to class?”
“Why, so you can see your lovebird?” Marinette teased, turning in Felix’s arms to grin at her.
“You know what? Yes. So can we go now?”
“Sure thing. See you in class Felix.” She kissed his cheek again, and her expression changed to look more... bashful? Nervous? “And... can we talk after school? It’s not too important, so if you have somewhere you need to go...”
“I actually have a dentist appointment, so I’ll have to take a rain check.” He gave her an easy smile.
“No problem.” She seemed almost relieved. “Tomorrow after school work for you?”
“Yes, I think I can make that work.”
“Great. See you in class.” She waved as she began skipping up the stairs.
“I won’t take too long!” He called back.
“You two are sickening, you do you know that?”
Felix looked down to where Plagg was lounging in his bag. “About as sickening as you, I assume?”
“Oh, shut it.”
“I bet you’re regretting convincing Adrien to walk three blocks in the rain to get that Camembert for you, aren’t you?”
“I am, but only because now I have to share it with you.” He hissed back.
“Sirs, please settle down!” Pollen whispered from inside Felix’s vest. “And I think it’s lovely that you and Miss Marinette are dating.”
“Thank you Pollen. It’s nice to see that someone is supportive of me.” He glared at Plagg.
“Yeah, well, she’s breaking up with you soon, so don’t come crying to me.”
“Excuse me?”
“We need to talk, after school.” Plagg quoted in an imitation of Marinette’s voice. “She’s dumping you.”
“Don’t be ridiculous.” Pollen placed her hands on Felix’s chest. “I’m sure Miss Marinette just needs to ask a little question.”
“Right, of course.”
But did she?
—
When Felix and Marinette started dating, three days ago, he was overjoyed at the opportunity to get to know her better and maybe even kiss, hug, hold her hand.
At first, they were both nervous at the change in their dynamic, but soon settled into it like it was how they had always been. Marinette would lean into his shoulder and he would peck a kiss onto her temple in the middle of a conversation, and continue on like nothing at happened.
Just yesterday, when they had finished with their picnic and were walking to Marinette’s home, hand in hand, to play Ultimate Mecha Strike Three, when she had admitted, beet red, that she was really happy that they were dating.
“I just… like being like this with you.” She whispered, squeezing his hand tight.
“I do too.” He squeezed back. “More than I thought was possible.”
So why would she want to break up with him?
—
The rest of that day, and the next, Felix was practically a shell of himself. When Marinette ran to hug him, though, he relaxed immediately, almost melting in her arms.
“You okay?” She propped her chin up on his shoulder. “You seemed tense yesterday.”
He nodded. “Just distracted. We can talk about it along with whatever you have to say after school.”
Her eyes widened in surprise. “Right, uh, I’ll talk to you then.”
“She’s breaking up with you...” Plagg sang as she left.
“Shut up.” He muttered through a gritted smile.
—
“Hey.” Marinette jolted as he appeared at her side. Upon seeing him, she relaxed almost immediately.
“Oh, hi!”
“You ready to talk?”
“Yeah, uh, sure.” That nervous look appeared on her face again.
“Let’s go.” He wrapped an arm around her waist and the two strolled easily to the park.
She was fidgety the entire time, not saying anything, not meeting his eyes.
When they got to they park he stopped, grabbing her shoulders and facing her with a determined look.
“Are you breaking up with me?”
“What? No! No no no no no no no!” She shook her head adamantly and took his face in her hands. “Felix, why would you think that?”
Now it was he who couldn’t meet her eyes.
“I- a friend planted the idea and you’ve seemed so anxious when I’ve mentioned it and I may have... adopted the worst.”
She stared at him in disbelief before pulling him forward into a searing kiss. Their first kiss.
When she pulled away, Felix felt... discombobulated; messy.
“Felix, I never ever want to break up with you if I can help it. Got that?”
He nodded dumbly. “Then what did you want to discuss?”
“You smell weird.” She said flatly. “I thought you should know.”
“You’ve been stressed all day, not looking at me. I’ve been stressed all day, thinking you’re going to break up with me, because I smell bad?” He was incredulous.
“Well, I’m not stressed now!” She shouted back. “I thought you’d take it badly but now that I know you thought we were going to break up...” she laughed, “it didn’t seem so bad.”
“So... I smell weird?”
“Yeah, like Adrien usually does, but ten times worse.”
“Ah, I see.” He rifled through his bag, flicking Plagg in the head as he did, before pulling out a circular box of cheese; limited addition Camembert. “This would probably be source of the scent.”
She leaned forward to take a sniff, then immediately fell back, holding her nose.
“Yep, that’s it.”
“It’s Adrien’s; it must have fallen in my bag when I was getting ready,” he lied, “I can’t believe I didn’t notice.”
“So this isn’t a case of ‘boy subtlety lies to a girl he likes and the second they start dating he reverts back to his natural form?’”
“No, my scent is usually not a smelly cheese.”
“Oh, thank goodness.”
