stopped by #Brodards #Vietnamese restaurant in #FountainValley near #LittleSaigon #Westminster in #OrangeCounty . Had the best #springrolls in my life! 1) coconut breaded shrimp slightly sweet with a spicy aioli. 2) the famous #shrimpspringrolls #chaotomcuon with the flaky fried crisp inside for that unique texture I never found in any other spring roll. Side of special house sauce. 3) #roastedduck spring roll #goicuonvit with #plumsauce. 4) barbecue beef skewers with noodle crepes, banh hoi bo nuong. Side of chili fish sauce, nuoc cham. 😋 Next visit I have to try the grilled pork spring rolls #nemnuong (what they're known for) 10/10. Sibling LA Trip: Brodard’s

This place is a cult favorite (there were non-Vietnamese lining up to eat here and people buying nem nướng by the tray) so we had to stop by. We got the papaya salad, which was pretty basic, and the bánh khọt, which were so good, and the  nem nướng, which they are known for. It was an overall excellent meal, and I would recommend both the bánh khọt and the nem nướng. They were worth the wait for sure.

If you aren’t familiar with these dishes...

Nem Nướng: Are you a fan of spring rolls? Get ready for it’s cool cousin nem nướng! It’s a similar rice paper roll concept, but with a more flavorful protein option, and sometimes a crunchy egg roll wrapper inside. It’s served with a thicker shrimp paste dipping sauce instead of the regular fish sauce. (Directly translates to “marinate grill” according to me, who may be wrong)

Bánh Khọt: Have you heard of bánh xèo (a savory crepe with bean sprouts, pork, and veggies)? Well here’s it’s tiny cousin, bánh khọt! All you really need to know is that the shape of bánh khọt is perfect for holding fish sauce (the regular kind), and combined with fresh herbs and veggies, it creates the ultimate crunchy flavor bomb. (I’m not sure what bánh khọt translates to, but bánh xèo refers to the sizzle, or xèo, of the pan when you pour the batter in.)
