Games I tried in January 2026
February just started a few days ago and this year I have this goal to try more games.
Luckily enough, in January this felt quite easy.
I have played like 4 ½ new games!
Brofish: Fishing Autobattler (Playtest)
This one caught my eyes immediately and it looks like it's literally made for me. As somebody who loves SAP, this game is a cute mix between SAP, Brotato and Plants VS Zombies. Amazing mix. I hope the developer lives up to my high expectations. It definitely needs some work *cough cough* and game doctoring *cough cough*.
Pereelous (Demo)
I loved the game Tinyfolks from this developer and this game looked fun but it lowkey fell super flat. Sound design was weak too but music was as much of a banger as the music in Tinyfolks. I didn't play this game for long but I gave it a good shot.
DiceVaders (Playtest)
StarVaders was (literally) my game of the year in 2025, as in: the only new game I played in 2025. I think I like DiceVaders even more than StarVaders and playing as the Monsters is just cooler anyways. Blob Girls Mains assemble!
... and lastly, I'll count this one as only half a new game but:
Demacia Rising
Indeed, I've been "playing" the new meta game in the League of Legends launcher. It's cute and in a genre I'd never normally touch. On the one hand, as expected for a Riot Games product, it has some really strong fundamentals. On the other hand, it really isn't anything special and is barely a real game. It's very on rails and you just click some buttons. I do get the illusion that I make some good strategical decisions every now and then though.
Unfortunately to progress in this game I actually have to play League of Legends but honestly, the new ARAM Mayhem mode is absolutely amazing. In fact, I enjoy that mode and what it accomplishes so much, I have been considering writing a blog post about it!
If you also have been a retired League of Legends player and aren't fit for the hyper competitiveness on Summoner's Rift anymore, I wholeheartedly recommend checking out ARAM Mayhem.
Let's see if anything catches my eye in February 2026. 🔍👀
PS: I have started a new Terraria run in the new 1.4.5 update though. So I have little expectations of playing anything else this month.
PPS: Tiny Rogues development is going great. Maybe I'll make a Steam News post at the end of February about the progress.
EDIT:
I also played Hytale! (Early Access)
It's awesome, looking forward to more of it. Fresh wind in the block game genre. I love Minecraft and Hytale is just familiar and different enough to be a real vibe. I also love most of the things Simon, the main developer and owner, says on social media. Seems like a cool guy.
