Our new meat birds arrived and we’re excited about how well they were packed for mailing, the amount of space they had and how healthy they were upon arrival. Hatcheries that usually allow in person pickup are more cautious and protective of their families, workers and the birds so they practice more mailing than normal. This order came from @bobsbiddies in Georgia a neighboring state with a shorter distance to travel. Bob and Diane are very efficient and have safeguards in place to ensure a healthy bird arrives. They told us to expect our order this week and they were punctual. Our next processing date is this Saturday and we have a couple local neighbors coming to learn and process one of their own birds with us. We always use gloves and aprons but we’re adding masks as well. These will be available within the next 6-8 weeks. More about that in our upcoming post. We’rethankful for the bio security workshops we’ve attended. #chickens #pasturebroilers #broilers #broilerchickens #biddies #babychicks #poultry #farmlife #homesteading #homesteadinglife #raisingchickens #feedingamerica #hühner #poulet #pollo #pollitos #kuiken #rural #rurallife #biosecurity #poultrybiosecurity #sustainableliving (at Morning Glory Homestead) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAMJJA1F1J3/?igshid=14dfqjzg63dgw
Finally found out which of my 🐔 girls 🐔 had been laying these gorgeous orange-tinted 🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚. It's this mama! She's an #aseeldesimix; her feathers gleam blue and emerald green in the sun 💕 I had spotted her at my butcher's shop about 2 weeks ago when I had gone to buy wood for the quails' aviary (the murghi waalah is right next door to the wood shop.) The murghi guy is an honest straightforward chap who raises is own #freerangechickens; I trust his word. I asked him whether she was a #layer or a #broiler. He said that she was a layer, about 1-1.5 years old, but had stopped laying for a while, no medical issues; so he had brought her to his shop with his #broilerchickens to be, well, slaughtered for meat. I had fallen in love with her, so I decided to bring her home anyway 🙈 The price was steep-ish, because the guy prices by live weight, and she's a heavy girl. She was kept in my coop for about 10 days, and was then allowed to #freerange with the rest of my flock. For the past 5 days, she has been laying an #egg a day like clockwork. I'm going to collect about 10, before I put them in for #incubation. My 🐓 is also a stunnig aseel-desi mix boi. These babies are going to be gooooor-jussss, I CAN'T WAIT TO MEET THEM!!! 😍 I had previously thought that these eggs were coming from my #orpington girl, but today, I actually saw this girl lay (and stole the egg right after she left the coop 🙈), so now we know for sure. 🙂 (Yes, I've been stalking my #chickens, I NEEDED TO KNOW WHO THE MAMA WAS, OKAY?! 😂) #eggsofinstagram #rescuechickens #chickensofinstagram #chickensofkarachi #chickenfarmingadventures #urbanchickens #urbanfarm #karachidiaries #karachigram #karachiinstagram #karachifarm #karachi #pakistan https://www.instagram.com/p/BvQu9heFGl0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=pu51bv9i668z
