hi! i'm working on a cosplay for tsukishima kei, and i saw your cosplay post, and it was so so great! i'm having trouble finding out what kind of shoes he wears with his uniform and what kind of volleyball to get (the colorful one), so I was wondering if you could send me in the right direction to find them.. thank you!

Hi! Thank you! And of course! I hope you don’t mind me making this public for other Tsukishima cosplayers :)

To start, I used to play varsity volleyball, so some of this information comes from personal experience mixed with what I’ve learned about Haikyuu!!

So, the shoes. All of the boys wear volleyball shoes, which are a specific type of athletic shoe for playing on volleyball courts. Brand new, they tend to be very expensive. They’re actually not supposed to be worn outside either, as it tends to ruin the rubber on the bottom. If you’re looking to be as accurate as possible, eBay has some used volleyball shoes for cheaper than their normal $100+ price tags and you won’t have to worry about ruining them. That being said, there are two ways to approach this. Tsukishima’s shoes are white and green in promotional images and in the first episodes of the anime. However, when Karasuno faces off against Nekoma all of the Karasuno boys are wearing all white shoes. This is pretty typical of volleyball players. They have a practice pair of shoes, warm ups, and knee pads, but a game pair of knee pads, shoes, and uniform so they look cleaner and more professional. So, your options are for all white shoes or white with green stripes. I went with white and green because all the promotional pictures shows Tsukki with them. I bought a pair of all white Cross Trekkers in the style Hustle 2.0 and painted on/drew on the green myself using multiple reference pictures, sharpies, and painters tape. Be warned, the animators weren’t very consistent with Tsukishima’s shoes and there are no real close ups of them, so you may have to alter them to your liking based on the shoe’s shape.

As for the volleyball, there are two that are used consistently in the show, a red, green, and white one and a blue and yellow one. The red, green, and white one seems to be used mostly for Karasuno’s practice and games and the yellow and blue for passing and serving practice. Both are considered accurate, but the red, green, and white one seems to be more recognizable.

Red, green, white - This is Molten brand. This volleyball comes in two versions. The official version is sewn with curved panels and a special type of leather. It runs, on average (even on ebay), for about $70. Usually you can find it for $60-$85 depends on where you look. However, there is another version, which is the one I own. The version I own is sewn with straight panels and the colors are printed onto the leather. From a distance, these volleyballs look identical. The version I own is the Junior Sports Club version. It’s lighter and cheaper than the official one, but its still regulation size for adult volleyball (size 5) and runs about $30-$40. I purchased my volleyball from a UK seller off of eBay.

Blue and yellow - I don’t know as much about this one, considering I was pretty dedicated to getting the first type. However, this one is much cheaper overall because this volleyball has knock-offs and replicas floating around. It is Mikasa brand. Typically, I believe they run for about $30-$50. They also have replica versions that run for about $15. I spotted the replica versions on Walmarts website and I believe Dick’s sporting goods as well.
