I WANT MY GIRLS TO SAVE ME
WANT THEM TO BURST IN WHEN THE DAGGERS AT MY NECK
I WANT MY LOVE TO REDEEM ME, LET THESE KILLERS FINALLY SEE ME
I FEEL IT GROWING IN ME AT THE BRINK OF DEATH

Everything looked different, and Naesala wasn't sure how long it took him to find recognizable territory. In the meantime he fantasized vaguely about Begnion burning as well, or of someone making them answer for this--someone who wasn't him, because it could never be him.
Sooner or later he'd have to look directly at Duke Gaddos and hold back every word about this.
Half of Kilvas and any chance he might've had at peace of mind hadn't been enough, had it? Of course he also had to lose one of the dearest friends he'd ever known to the glorious, righteous, ever goddess-abiding empire.
Eventually, he gained a good sense of where he was, and from there, he found his way to where the royal family had lived.

Just getting messed up about laguz lifespans and how fucking tragic Kilvas is
I actually went and did the timeline math and realized that there are only 167 years between the Treaty of Sarasa and the start of Path of Radiance, which means there are ravens alive who remember what Begnion rule was like before that. The "plague" could have killed a lot of them, but hell, Nealuchi was definitely alive during the occupation and probably even lived through Kilvas's entire duration, cause the country is only 225 years old in PoR. (225 ÷ the raven lifespan modifier of 3.5 only makes him at least the equivolent of 64 for this, and he looks like he could vary well be older than that.)
I'm also realizing now there are probably only three total sovereigns: the founder (my Queen Kilv in my mind), who probably died in the war or was executed in its conclusion, her probably son? who signed the pact, and then Naesala. That's it. She's only Naesala's... great aunt, probably. Nealuchi could have met her.
Now if only the timeline could specify exactly when the "plague" happened, because that's the nationwide angst I was actually looking for.
“What are you doing?”
“Braiding flowers in.”
She let out an excited gasp that made Naesala laugh.
“I had a friend I used to do this for all the time when we were young. It’ll be fun having someone who enjoys letting me play with her hair again,” Naesala mused. “You girls are lucky, you know, getting to wear it in so many interesting ways.”

Naesala is distracting, not that Tibarn really minds.

He glared and crossed his arms. "You sold Reyson to Oliver," he began with no preamble.
"Yes."
For a few seconds of silence, Tibarn waited, expecting more that didn't come. "Is that all you have to say about it?" he demanded.
"I'm not going to waste our time denying it."
