It was the first day in a new job for Bellamy Blake. He tried to be punctual but Octavia was so excited about her brother’s new job that she wouldn’t stop talking about it when they were eating breakfast. That’s why Bellamy was running through the corridors of the Ark as fast as he could. He was already fifteen minuted late on his first day. And to make it even worse, he couldn’t find Kane’s cabins. Eventually, he turned around the corner and thanks to some nice gentleman he found the right doors and knocked on them in a hurry. He was out of breath when Kane’s wife opened the door.
“Oh, you must be Bellamy, right?” asked the woman nicely, not even mentioning that he was terribly late. “I’m Louisa, Marcus’ wife. Here, come in. Do you want something to drink? You look as if you’ve just ran a marathon” she smiled gently leading Bellamy to the kitchen.
“Water, please If that’s not a problem m’am” said Bellamy in a husky voice, still trying to catch his breath. “I’ve had a hard time finding the right place. I’ve never been here before, in that part of the Ark”
“I get it. When I moved in with Marcus after our wedding I kept wandering around these corridors because I wasn’t sure which door should I open” Louisa passed a glass of water to Bellamy and he thanked her. He drank the whole of it suprisingly fast. “Casey’s in her room. I guess you should meet her if you two are gonna work together. But, please, don’t get scared away by her attitude. She just has...some problems.” Louisa smiled apologetically to Bellamy while leading the way to her daughter’s room.
Bellamy was wondering how was it even possible that such a nice woman as Louisa married someone like Kane. She just didn’t fit him at all. But maybe that’s why they were together? Because of being the total opposite of each other?
At the same time, he was thinking about infamous Casey Kane, his assignment. Why was everyone saying she was troublesome? She was just a teenage girl, probably spoiled by her daddy and she was just in that age when she wanted to do the opposite of what her parents were telling her.
Louisa knocked on the door but there was no response. “Casey, honey, can you open the door?”
“Not hungry” said the voice from the inside.
“Casey...” pleaded Louisa but was interrupted by a sudden scream. “Go away, murderer!”
Murderer? Bellamy was shocked with this accusation. He knew Kane was responsible for many floatings but Louisa? This nice, gentle woman? She couldn’t hurt a fly even if she tried.
“Casey, just open the door. You have a guest” Bellamy heard some noises behaind the closed doors and soon after he was met with a pair of light-browm eyes.
“You’re not Clarke” the girl accused him. Obviously, she was expecting someone else and when seeing Bellamy her face quickly went from excited to disappointed. “What do you want?”
“Hi, I’m Bellamy. I’m going to be your personal guard from now on” Bellamy even smiled when he raised his hand ready to shake hers. But she looked suspiciously at it and didn’t even move a bit. Bellamy took his hand away, feeling slightly ashamed and uncomfotable. “You can go. There’s no work here for you. I’m not going anywhere today.” She spoke and closed the doors quickly. Right beside Bellamy Louisa sighed.
“I’m deeply sorry for her, Bellamy” spologised Louisa “ We don’t know what else to do. You can stay here for a while if you want but I guess there’s no sense. She won’t leave her room. If you want to, you can go home, Bellamy, or you can try your best with her. Anyway, I’ll be in the kitchen if you’ll need me. Good luck” said Louisa and left. Bellamy didn’t know what to do. Try talking with Casey Kane? Go home? Both options seemed equally bad. After meeting Casey Kane he understood why eveyone was quitting the job. She wasn’t scary, she was just extremly annoying.
But she was his challenge after all. And Bellamy Blake wasn’t giving up that easily. He knocked on the door again but to no avail so he kept knocking. Eventually she would get annoyed with the sound. It took her exactly six and a half minutes when she angrily opened the door.
“What the hell do you want?!” shouted Casey while looking Bellamy straight in the eyes. Bellamy pushed her aside and entered the room. “Get the fuck out! Are you deaf or something?” Bellamy didn’t respond. He just sat down on bed ad gave a closer look to Casey Kane. She was really short, like “he could rest his chin on her head while hugging her” kind of short. She had big light-brown eyes and dark-brown hair. She had her hair tied tight on the top of her head. She was looing at him as if she wanted to kill him for entering her room.
“Get the fuck out of here” shouted Casey getting more irritated every second Bellamy refused to listen to her. “Are you really deaf? Or just stupid?”
“No, just waiting till you stop screaming your lungs out and let me do my job. I don’t want to be here either, you know? But i have family too and my mother is waiting for bonus points I’m gonna earn here for being you nanny. I don’t have high positioned father like you. I’m not that privileged. So just shut up already and let me stay here as long as your father wish” said Bellamy while looking Casey straight in the eyes during his speech.
Casey Kane was surprised at his sudden outburst. She wasn’t expecting that. Casey wanted him simply out of her room so she could lie all day in bed mourning about her miserable life. But when she was thinking about Bellamy’s words she realized he was right. He needed to earn points - she didn’t. She didn’t even know how hard it was to earn points because she had her dad doing that for the whole family.
“Move” she ordered when she came closer to bed on which Bellamy was sitting. He looked at her, surprised she gave up that easily. Bellamy got up and Casey laid down on her bed, getting under the blanket and stared at one point in a complete silence. Bellamy felt uneasy, like he was interrupting Casey during her moment of contemplating. But he wasn’t going to be scared away by that. He sat at her desk and looked at books she owned. He was about to reach one when Casey spoke “Don’t”
“If you want so desperatly to sit here you need to follow certain rules”
“What are they?” asked Bellamy, curiously looking at the girl covered in blanket as if she was a little, sick child. Only her eyes were looking at him deadly serious.
“One - don’t touch anything. Two - don’t speak. Three - if I fall asleep don’t wake me up under no circumstances. Even if my father finally falls dead, it’s not a good reason to wake me up, understand?” Bellamy whispered quiet “yes” looking at Casey even more curiously than before. What happened in Kane’s family that the only daughter of Marcus and Louisa hated her father so much? That she claimed his death wouldn’t even be something she would care about. What happened in this family?
Casey saw he was opening his mouth to ask about something. God, she knew exactly what he was going to ask about. But she knew better than to trust a complete stranger.
“Four - don’t ask me about my family. I won’t tell yoy anything, no matter what.”
“Okay, but do you ever leave this room?” asked Bellamy, spinning around on the chair.
“You just lie in bed all day?”
“Rule number two - don’t speak” she reminded him.
“But I don’t know what should I do. What your previous guards were doing?”
“I don’t know. They never lasted long” answered Casey “One was even bringing me breakfast every morning for three days. She was constantly waking me up early hours and breaking the rule number three. I hated her but she lasted the longest.”
“I’m your personal guard, not your chambermaid. I won’t bring you breakfest to bed” jaked Bellamy.
Casaey laughed. Genuinely laughed for the first time since her grandma’s death and she wouldn’t stop.
Bellamy looked at her in awe. Maybe this job wouldn’t be so bad after all? Yeah, Casey had a tough character but she wasn’t exactly the person he would want to spend days with but she seemed like a broken girl who needed to be fixed. Maybe Bellamy didn’t want to fix her then but step after step, slowly he might even enjoy spending time with her.
“Honey, I forgot my papers” said Marcus Kane entering his apartment in a rush. He walked into his little office and took the papers.
“Where’s Blake?” asked Marcus his wife “Has he ran away already”
“No, he’s trying his best w ith Casey. I’ve heard him knocking to her doors for six minutes before she lost her temper and yelled at him. I think he stormed into her room and she was yelling at him for a while but I haven’t heard anything for a while now”
“He’s trying. We’ll see how long will he last” Marcus smiled and kissed his wife on the forehead. In that moment they heard laughter coming from Casey’s room. Louisa held her breath and looked in the direction of her daughter’s room. Marcus blinked a few times in surprise.
“Maybe he was a good choice after all”
