Bellamy Blake has been a guard for over six months now and he still hated it but he was trying his best. That’s why Marcus Kane got interested in Bellamy Blake.
Kane watched him closely for quite some time now and soon he was going to offer him even better job than that of an ordinary guard.
Marcus Kane was afraid that his daughter would get herself into trouble because of her anger level growth. She wasn’t very keen on listening to what he or his wife had to say in that matter. Even though since the death of Cristina Kane and the illness of Louisa Kane passed two years, Casey still felt betrayed by her relatives and she was still furious with her parents’ behaviour.
Marcus Kane was tired of helping Casey get out of trouble. She was constantly getting into a fight with someone, she tried stealing medication, she even offended the chancellor during the dinner. Marcus Kane had tried employing numerous different guards to look after his little troublemaker: older ones, more experienced ones, new ones, females. But Casey Kane freaked out all of them. There never had been a guard such young as Bellamy though. Since Bellamy and Casey were in similar age, Marcus thought that maybe Blake could be able to keep an eye on her and wouldn’t be scared away so easily. Maybe Bellamy Blake would understand Casey Kane and her anger with the Ark?
“Blake” shouted Kane when he saw Bellamy passing by.
“Yes, Sir?” asked Bellamy politely but through gritted teeth.
“We need to talk. Meet me after your shift in my office. Dismissed”
For a short moment Bellamy Blake was scared. What if Kane knew somehow about Octavia? What his family was going to do then? Should he warn his mother and worry her now or later? Would the chancellor float all the Blakes for braking the law?
Till the end of his shift Bellamy was nervous. He couldn’t stop thinking about the meeting with Kane. He didn’t know what to expect from it. Obviously, he couldn’t think of anything else but the worst case scenarios. When you are breaking the law it is natural that you always assume that someone in power found out about it.
After his shift ended Bellamy hurried to the Kane’s office but before he knocked on the door he needed to take a few deep breaths to calm himself down.
Eventually, Bellamy knocked on the door and waited. His palms began to sweat, he couldn’t breath properly and his whole body was shivering.
“Enter” Bellamy heard Kane’s hard voice. When he entered the room he began to panic even more because not only Marcus Kane was present there but also chancellor Jaha himself.
“You wanted to see me, Sir?” Bellamy tried to sound normal even though he was scared like never before in his entire life.
“Blake, sit down, please, and wait a minute” said Kane. „So, Thelonious, we have everything under control. You don’t need to worry about anything. I’m already taking care of it.”
“Thank you, Marcus. It would be nice if she wasn’t making anymore problems. I don’t know if we’re gonna be able to cover up another Casey’s mistake.” After that chancellor Jaha walked out of the room which confused Bellamy even more. What the hell is happening? - thought the boy from Walden to himself.
“So, Blake, do you like your job as a guard?” asked Kane gaining Bellamy’s attention.
“Yes, Sir, very much.”
“I’ve heard you were the best one in your training group?”
“That’s what they say, Sir.”
“How old are you, Blake?”
“I turned eighteen last month, Sir.”
“Wonderful” Bellamy was more and more confused by this meeting which felt like an interrogation to him.
“I’m sorry, Sir, but I don’t quite understand the purpose of this meeting. Have I done something wrong?
“Of course not, son” Kane looked surprised. Maybe his intentions weren’t clear enough to the poor boy? “You probably know I have a daughter around your age. She is facing some… problems now and I’m really worried about her. Many guards had tried to keep an eye on her but, you see, Casey can be a little…intimidating sometimes and not everyone can handle her stubbornness. I wanted to offer you a better job. As a private guard of my daughter. What do you say, Blake?”
Bellamy freezed. He was worried as hell about this meeting because he thought they found out about Octavia and, in reality, here he was - sitting across from Marcus Kane who was offering him a job promotion? How bizarre that even sound?
“And my responsibilities would include…?” Asked Bellamy, curious.
“That’s easy. You’ll need to follow Casey outside our home, be her shadow and take care of her so she won’t get herself into anymore trouble. Be here friend. But most importantly, keep her safe and away from potential danger.”
“That’s all?” Bellamy was surprised. He was to follow some daddy’s girl around and keep an eye on her? And they were going to give him more points* for that? It sounded like an easy job.
“So, Blake, do you accept the offer?”
“Yes, Sir, I do” ***** “Why so late, Bellamy? I was worried!” Shouted Aurora Blake when Bellamy entered the room.
“Bellamy, why so long?” Octavia seemed a little shaken up by the fact that her brother hadn’t come home as usual. Bellamy quickly hugged his sister and rubbed her back like he used to do when she was very little and scared of something.
“Sorry, I was held up by Marcus Kane. He wanted me to meet him in his office after my shift”
“What?!” Aurora needed to stop preparing dinner when she heard the news. She looked at her son in total horror respecting the worse. She was already thinking how to get away from potential situation in which the chancellor knew about her breaking the law. Her hands started shaking and cold sweat appeared on her forehead. She gribbed a knife so tight that her knuckles became white.
“Calm down, mom. They don’t know about Octavia. Marcus Kane offered me a promotion and I agreed. We’re gonna get more points from now on” Bellamy smiled at his mother when she relaxed. Octavia shouted something not quite understandable in excitement and hugged her brother tightly, if that was even possible.
Aurora Blake took a few deep breaths to calm herself down. She was like a balloon. Firstly, she was out of air but, after hearing good news, she was full of it again. Aurora let herself be quiet for a while and turned back to her children so they won’t see how fragile she really was.
“So what are you going to do?” asked Aurora finally, returning to the preparation of the dinner.
“Nothing special. I had to take care od Kane’s privileged daughter and keep her out of trouble. How hard can it be? She’s probably some spoiled princess that goes shopping everyday.”
