Seven Barrows.
Land of the dead. You can certainly feel the raw pagan power that once dominated this landscape, in simpler time, you know before Christianity reared its ugly head and started subjugating people. Impressive monuments considering the technology at hand. -TommyC
Seven Barrows is a bronze age cemetery located along the Lambourn to Kingston Lisle Road. Despite it’s name the site actually contains over 30 barrows! There are, however, seven barrows located in one field. There are multiple types of barrow from bowl barrows, to bell and disc barrows. When the site was excavated archaeologists found that one grave contained the remains of multiple cremations dating from ~2200BC. This site is incredible, until you stand in the shadows of the barrows its hard to comprehend just how large they are. Once you are next to the barrows you can begin to appreciate that amount of workmanship that must have gone into creating these impressive burial monuments -RoxyB.
Side note: This site is easily over-looked and is on the side of the road. The site is overgrown and it is not well sign posted at all. The only indication that this site is somewhere special is a small plaque located just by the gate to the field.
