Despite having had a nearly 100% success rate with this so far, it's really bummed me out that my last two casting attempts have failed. First one was a short pour resulting from the mould not being tightened down, and the second was a blow out :/ Think the solution is a new casting flask. Well, it is indeed good to begin a project with an unmitigated, unqualified success. Someone helpfully pointed out that #bronze doesn't rust. So, I decided to clean the #bronzesword first. I cleaned first with a sponge and dish soap which removed basically nothing but it felt slicker, less dusty. Given that there's #asbestos in the #soot and #ash, it can't hurt to have wet it down to discourage it from getting into the air. Then I hit it with #steelwool. Instant success. Just took a few minutes.
