Pokemon - Giovanni and Gloria, grandfather granddaughter bonding time
"What about her?" Gloria asks, nodding at a woman walking leisurely down main street.
Giovanni tilts his head slightly to the side, watching. He's quiet for a moment, taking in the way the woman moved from stall to stall, making small talk with every vendor. Just as she came close to the small café table they were occupying, Giovanni sighed.
"Really?" Gloria arches both eyebrows. "I'd say water-type."
"No," Giovanni says, lips pulled into a smug smile. "Grass-type."
"Alright," Gloria concedes, and steps up right as the woman passes them by. "Excuse me, ma'am. Would you be up for a battle?"
The woman opens with a Whimsicott. Gloria's Salazzle makes short work of it, but that's not exactly a surprise.
"And you can always tell?" Gloria asks, after the battle wraps up and the woman, no longer walking quite as leisurely, leaves behind enough money to pay for their lunch. "Always?"
"It's a gift," Giovanni replies. "You watch people long enough, you start noticing things."
"Like what?" Gloria asks, amused.
Giovanni shrugs eloquently.
"Like the fact she looked like a grass-type user."
He's right about the next six random strangers Gloria chooses, too, but it's okay because that's enough to pay for dessert, twice, and dinner.
She'll figure it out, yet.
