Dean stabbed his balde into the chest of the final demon between him and Gabriel. As soon as he had learned that Asmodeus had Gabriel, he had been desperate to save him. He couldn’t save his mom, or Jack, couldn’t kill Lucifer, couldn’t keep Michael from coming from the other world, but he could damn well save Gabriel.
He wasn’t about to admit it to anyone, but he had developed a certain fondness for the archangel. He wouldn’t forgive himself for letting this happen to Gabriel (never mind that Dean hadn’t even known that he was still alive until about a month ago).
Finally, there was nothing between himself and the door to Gabriel’s cell. Dean stared at it for a moment, mentally preparing himself for what he might find. He finally forced himself to walk forward, pulling out his lock-pick set and getting to work. He picked the lock in seconds, and the door swung open. Dean felt another wave of anger when he saw Gabriel.
The archangel was in bad shape. His lips were sewn together and he was hunched over, clearly in pain. Dean approached slowly, kneeling in front of Gabriel. “Gabriel?” he whispered. “I’m gonna get you outta here, alright? It’s probably gonna hurt; I don’t have time to patch you up too much before we go.” He pulled out his pocket knife, letting Gabriel see it. “I’m just going to cut through the stitches on your mouth, okay? I need you to be really still.” He carefully moved forward, telegraphing every movement so he didn’t startle Gabriel. This wasn’t the first time he had rescued someone from being tortured. He knew how important it was to avoid startling the person. He carefully cut the stitches, tugging them out and tossing them aside.
Once he had the stitches out, he stood, extending a hand to Gabriel. “Come on, Gabriel. Let’s get you somewhere safe.”
