BROWNOISE is a revamp of a UT au I made a long time ago. In this au, you play as the MC "Arlo", who’s a 20 year old junior in college. They’re a very anxious and self conscious individual, always doubting themselves and hesitant when it comes to facing their problems head on.
In this AU, it’s heavily implied that they used to have the soul of DETERMINATION much like Frisk. However, as their self image and mental health declined, their soul would desaturate into DEFEAT.
Now onto the actual story plot:
The monster characters in the lineup all come from a place called CAROB which Arlo can access via their brown noise machine
It was an unwanted family heirloom that finally passed down to them. All they have to do is sleep to the brown noise machine and they’ll wake up in Carob, more specifically in Ritchelle’s house (for context, Ritchelle is practically Arlo’s Toriel).
Arlo’s been visiting Carob since the ripe age of 10, as it is a safe space and a form of escape from the real world. They have so many friends and family over there, it’s the perfect getaway for them…
At least, it was… until an antagonist by the name of OLRA comes forth into the land of Carob.
They are a manifestation of hatred and loathing towards Arlo that takes the form of a mirror monster. In their lifelong mission to destroy Arlo, they’ve traveled from universe to universe, eliminating every single Arlo in existence, leaving behind the final Arlo… the ORIGINAL Arlo…
With them trapped in Carob, it’s up to them to discover what Olra’s vendetta is against them and if they can escape the wrath of the mirror monster with their soul intact.
