Times Square during a brownout - the advertising lights are out
(Herbert Gehr. 1950)
There was a brownout sometime this morning due to severe weather and now the desk tower won't send signal to the monitor. The desk tower that was several years old when I got it and already once had to be put back to factory settings due to a brownout, and that was before it started getting messages from MicroSoft telling me to replace it because the latest OS it'll run is the one they stopped supporting this year. All I've been using it for lately is as a music player and backup for the files on the laptop, but moving those functions to other devices would be enough of a pain that I hope if I just give it 8 or 24 hours it'll snap back. It's happened before.
Somebody get this man some clean pants and a scotch or 3

The good news is, according to investigation by the electric company operator I talked to on the phone, the two brownouts over the past twenty four hours which cut power to my desktower - which has a history of, once, needing to be reset to factory specs after this had happened - have been traced to an issue involving a raccoon and shouldn’t recur.
The bad news is, since that reset the desktower has apparently been running on Windows 8 which, according to a blue screen message shown me after it ran updates after I turned it back on after the second brownout, won’t be supported after January. The laptop’s on 10 but the tower’ll prolly jump right to 11 which I’ve heard iffy things about. I don’t remember what but if I hadn’t heard iffy things about it the laptop would be on it.
