Ok, so there are these two cats I'd like to come up with offspring possibilities for. The she-cat is a smoke tortoiseshell (black + ginger, genetically black-black (no chocolate or cinnamon genes)) with about 20% white, long fur, carries dilution. (Is it possible for her to only have inherited smoke from her dad?? Either way I'm not sure about the wide band genes that she has, what differences could there be?) The tom is a brown mackerel tabby, no white, carries dilution and a long fur gene.
To answer your questions about the molly’s smoke inheritance first, she could definitely have inherited smoke from her dad -- to be smoke, a cat just needs to 1) have a silver or smoke parent, and 2) not be a tabby. Wide band genes won’t affect whether she’s smoke or not, but they will affect what the smoke looks like -- the more wide band alleles she has, the lighter her smoke pattern will be. It’s really up to you which she has.
Each kit will have a roughly 50/50 chance of being longhaired vs. shorthaired.
Each male kit will have a 50% chance of being genetically black and a 50% chance of being genetically ginger; each female kit will have a 50% chance of being genetically black and a 50% chance of being genetically tortoiseshell.
Each kit will have a 25% chance of being dilute (black > grey, ginger > cream, tortie > blue-cream tortie) and a 75% chance of remaining non-dilute.
If the tom carries solid, each kit will have a 50/50 chance of being a tabby. If he doesn’t, every kit will be a tabby.
Here’s where it gets a bit complicated -- depending on what genes the mother has beneath her smoke, the possible silver/gold patterns on the kits change. Since you say you want her to have inherited smoke just from her father, I’m going to assume she has one silver gene and one non-silver gene. This means each kit has a 50/50 chance of being silver vs. non-silver.
The silver kits will be smoke if solid. If they’re tabbies, their pattern depends on whether the mother has a copy of the wide band gene. If she doesn’t, they’ll be silver tabbies. If she has two copies of the wide band allele, they’ll be silver shaded tabbies. If she has only one copy of the wide band allele, they’ll have a 50% chance of being silver tabbies and a 50% chance of being silver shaded tabbies.
If the mother doesn’t have any copies of the wide band allele, the non-silver kits will all be normally colored and patterned. If she has two copies of the wide band allele, they’ll be golden tabbies if tabbies and golden smoke if solid. If she has only one copy of the wide band allele, they’ll have a 50% chance of being golden and a 50% chance of having their normal color/pattern.
Each kit will have a 50% chance of have no white like their father and a 50% chance of having some white (anywhere from 0-60%) like their mother.
