((So I'm taking this tech writing course and one of the assignments was basically to make up the persona of someone who might be using the documentation.

I think you can see where this is going.

Darran Nocks is a 38 year old pharmacist who lives with his husband Bruce in small house in a bustling, urban neighborhood. They have one adopted daughter, Ida, and sometimes it seems to Darran that his main job in life is convincing her that, no, they cannot get another pet. Three cats, two dogs, two snakes, and a bird are enough, sorry kiddo.  Darran is an automobile enthusiast and somehow manages to fit two sports cars in the garage in addition to the more practical all-family vehicle (with room for three people and two dogs). Really they don't have enough money for this hobby, but Darran grabs overtime shifts whenever he can to pay for it.  This makes his work schedule kind of erratic.  He isn't in love with technology, but does keep up with it--he has a fairly new smart phone and so on.

  Being an impatient on-the-go type (even when he's sitting still), Darran is unlikely to read any technical document from start to finish.  Instead he tends to jump in to an application immediately, only consulting the documentation when he can't figure out what to do next or gets an error message.  Clearly titled sub-headings, a very easy-to-use index, and a troubleshooting section will all help this go-getter to go-get on the job.
