Neil on his RP (Received Pronunciation) accent! The Brummie accent has been voted as "the worst accent in the uk", and Neil has previously stated he ditched it "at about the age of 7" which is hilarious to me considering his twin has kept it!

If by some ill chance you find yourself in need of directions at Birmingham International do yourself a favour and ask anyone who is not white. Because if you ask a white person there’s a high chance they’ll be speaking with a Brummie accent and I as much as everyone can vouch that any other accent from any part of the world (maybe drop Northern Ireland) is easier to understand than drunk, mouth-full-of-prunes Brummie.

Working 9 to 5

Well, actually I work 9 to 5.30, but what’s a half hour when you’re making pop culture references? I did a whole week at work, guys. Only fifty or so years before I can retire. I’m supposed to be asleep right now but I was doing some linguistics homework on accents and of course I got sidetracked with various English (British/New Zealandish/Australian/South African/South Asian, etc.) and now I’m just listening to youtube video after youtube video of Birmingham accents. How the hell do you guys get made fun of for this accent??? I love it so much!

Peaky Blinders

Been meaning to do one of these since last week after the first episode but going back to college and everything else caught up with me. Still better late then never and it's nice to see that a healthy fan base is growing here on Tumblr already. I first heard of the show back last year when it was mentioned on BBC West Midlands's website. And to be pretty honest I had mixed feelings. One I don't normally go for gangster stuff like this. Two nearly everything tv wise portraying the Birmingham accent portrays it as a slow drawl that makes us sound thick (to put it abruptly) or worse as a Black Country accent. That is NOT how we speak! Anyway before this turns into a rant about accents let's get back to the point. As you can tell I had more then a few misgivings. Still as the air date was announced and promotional material released on BBC I started getting excited about it. Especially since the director is an actual Brummie himself so that gave me immensely high hopes. Well, I can say it didn't disappoint from the first minute I was hooked. Okay so the accents are a little off but then this is set in 1919, there are bound to be differences. But despite being filmed in Liverpool/Leeds mostly I still recognised landmarks like the town hall. But once the story got going that didn't even bother me. Now we're two episodes in and I'm already emotionally invested in shipping Tommy/Grace even though I have a feeling that it'll only lead to heart brake. As if NCIS didn't teach me that enough. Looking forward to next weeks episode which I may live blog through depending on how exhausted I am and if my laptop stops freezing ever few seconds or so. Still if your a fan feel free to watch and I'll follow back ;) Still that's all from me before I start really rambling. Tara'abit ;)

Peaky Blinders was great, very reminiscent of Ripper Street, but I loved that too. I thought the accents were a little bit weak, especially to start off with - it's funny, you very rarely hear Brummie accents on T.V....
