Black
That´s how they all started
In pure black
And suddenly, with a flash of light that left me blind, I found myself in the square. I walked through it, and when I reached the end I returned to the beginning.
I walked on, without a break, watching as the people who had previously been nothing more than a backdrop began to draw closer and closer, each time I reached the end, each time I returned to the beginning
I didn't want to keep walking, but I did it as if I needed to do it as much as breathing.
They started whispering
I knew what they were saying
Is it him?
Why has he come back?
He was the one who gave me that damn vision
He is cursed
Go away!
Yes! Get out! Get out of here!
And their already incriminating looks turned aggressive just as their whispers turned into screams. Surrounding me, all of them, pushing me, hitting me, while I begged for forgiveness even though I knew I wasn’t to blame. Forgiveness, with my eyes filled with tears, forgiveness, with my mouth bloody.
And seeming like a miracle, I managed to get out from among them, using the little strength I had left to start running.
Even so, I felt like they were chasing me, hunting me down, and I just closed my eyes and begged for it all to end.
Suddenly, it was black again, silence, and in a second, I was in my room.
Again that feeling that I had to move, that it wasn't over, and that I had to hide from the looks, murmurs, and screams that haunted me, that always followed me.
I climbed the stairs; my body, although exhausted and with traces of blood, moved with the same need one has when drinking water after being thirsty for a long time.
After a few seconds, I made it to the top, but my legs gave out, and I fell to the ground. However, with the little strength I had left, I dragged myself toward my vision dome. Once in the center of it, I let my head bury into the ground in search of peace.
But the murmuring and whispering started again.
When I lifted my head once more, I was no longer alone; I was in the same place, but surrounded by people. I couldn't see their faces; they were blurry, I could only see their eyes accusing me in unintelligible whispers
I blinked.
Quickly began to recognize some of the faces which were murmuring and looking at me accusingly.
Pepa, Julieta, Félix, Agustín
I tried to get closer to them, but my legs wouldn't move
Luisa, Isabela, Camilo Dolores
I tried to talk to them, but sand started coming out of my mouth
Mom, Antonio
I managed to raise a hand towards them, but it was shaking
Mirabel
She looked at me, disappointed and angry.
I started to vomit more sand, it was coming out of my eyes too
The whispers became louder, but now they were spoken by the voices of my family.
Pathetic
Why did he come back?
He's fading away
He's disappearing
I saw my body, they were right, I was crumbling, I was turning into sand
Even though it was their voices, even though it was them looking at me with disappointment, anger, and disdain. Still, I tried to ask them for help, anyone, anyone at all; I didn’t want to disappear
But I couldn't, only more sand came out of my mouth.
I managed to get to Mirabel's skirt, I clung to her with what was left of my hands, but when I lift my head...
Uncle Bruno, disappear
I felt as if my heart was being ripped out
As if I was being hit on the head
I was alone again, in my vision dome
Alone, fading away, turning into sand
And maybe they were right
Maybe I should just...
DISAPPEAR
I woke up covered in cold sweat in my room
Dolores and Mirabel by my side
Tio, are you okay? Dolores heard you complaining in your sleep and called us all, the others are outside. Are you alright? - She had sat on the edge of my bed and although I saw her worried and understood what she was saying, I couldn't speak, I was still sweating cold, I was shaking.
It was a nightmare
It was just a nightmare
She kept talking to me; I saw her blurry
I was crying
I was tired
Would they ever stop hunting me?
Would it be possible for me to have sweet dreams?
