When she’d seen Jasper come back inside she stayed silent, studying the other’s face with the care and fondness of someone who’d known her since the beginning of time. Of course, she hadn’t known her for that long. But she was starting to feel like she had. That unprobable life they were leading together in that temple to idleness in the middle of a sea of grass and silence had turned the barn into a true sanctuary for the both of them.
The time they had invested in each other’s company was finally starting to pay off. Forced tolerance had slowly turned to polite indifference, then to cautious acceptance and, finally, to something that resembled descreet affection. They had grown accustomed to each other’s sight, voice and, with time, touch.
And now all had led to that unexpected kiss. The feeling of the other’s lips on her struck her. Breath got caught in her chest. She was weary to move even an inch, for fear of ruining the moment. However, after a moment that seemed to last forever, she got an encore.
She didn’t flich, surprising herself of how calm she was to let the other reach -as she was discovering right there and then- one of her most sensitive areas… even more than calm. She was relaxed… she was liking it.
She held her breath, feeling herself warm up despite the chilly weather. Her eyes half lidded, smiling upon discovering herself free from any leftover hint of disgust and guilt and perfectly able to enjoy the attention for what is was. Warm, pleasant, sincere.
She was dying to say something, ask a reason for that gesture but she couldn’t bear the thought of interrupting. Though, she could not stand not reciprocating somehow either. So she gently leaned her head against Jasper’s, nuzzling a little to show she was not pushing her away.
