Thanks for your ask, and I love the Defenders so much too!
When I first saw what Marvel was doing with Krakoa, I rightfully called it a cult and many fans got mad about that, but I still stand by my opinion.
I feel that the discourse about "Krakoa is Israel" and the people who argue against that is mired in a lot of ignorance about the creation of the modern day X-Men by Claremont, and also what Genosha (the original "mutants only!" nation) was supposed to represent.
A lot of the mindset that revolves around Krakoa and a lot of the talking points fans bring up about mutants literally sounds like Israeli propaganda, and it's very alarming that people refuse to critically examine media; ex: seeing fans constantly reinforce the "Mutants are hated everywhere so they need a place of their own" is very close to the kinda propaganda that is pushed by Israel.
I'm not saying that Hickman set out to specifically state "Krakoa is Israel" but rather he was basing his Krakoa on Genosha (which is based on Israel) to explore that setting and he was trying to set up the eventual fall of the Mutant Ethnostate. However his time with the X-Men was cut short after Marvel and the creative team derailed his plans. So Krakoa is based on the idea of Genosha, which is the first time such a concept was introduced into the X-Men Lore, which was created by Claremont, (who is a Zionist and spent time living in Israel).
I will actually tag my mutual @brw who is alot more knowledgeable than I am and who can help explain it better.
