The First Bite ~ Bryla
The overpowering scent of sweat and fear and despair hit Brigitte like a wall as she descended into the basement to personally escort Kyla. She was glad she had agreed to come, if reluctantly. In the bustle of moving into the manor, meeting the numerous residents, and catching up with her sister, she'd neglected to feed, and she could feel that it wouldn't be wise to wait much longer. Her eyes wandered the cavernous space, taking it all in for the first time, all cool stone and metal cages, and she shivered a little at the memories it stirred. Quickening her pace, she soon spotted the tall blonde girl sitting on one of the cots and approached her carefully, not wanting to startle her. "Hello, Kyla. Are you ready?" She spoke gently and offered her most reassuring smile, though it didn't seem to dissipate the palpable air of nervousness around the girl. It was understandable, after what she'd said about her experience with her sister over the past few months, but she couldn't the pained expression that crossed her features at the defeated look in the girl's face. "This way."
Brigitte turned and walked ahead, letting Kyla follow along at her own pace, only turning once in a while to check that she was still there and hadn't bolted for the nearest exit. She searched for something to say, to try and soothe the poor girl's nerves, but could think of nothing appropriate in such circumstances. As they ascended the winding flights of stairs, she finally settled on some idle conversation to break the uncomfortable silence. "Do you like music? It's one of my great passions in life."
