There's the obvious parallel of Woodes Rodgers being the parallel to Flint had there not been the break from England (Thomas getting sent to Bethlam, ect), but that has me thinking: Is there a parallel between Gates and Blackbeard (and by association their sons Billy and Vane) beyond son dies/thought dead and then father figure is brutally killed?

(just a quick search, with no further knowledge about flowers or history): Queen Anne's lace is a common name for a plant that most often refers to the species Daucus carota (wild carrot plant). Blackbeard’s ship was Queen Anne's Revenge (not in the show though).
