BSD 65 ramblings & speculations

I’ve only seen the raws (which I can’t read) and the summary put together by @popopretty and already I can’t fucking sit still lol. Spoilers warning.

First off, I was surprised to know how really attached Mori was to Yosano to an unhealthy extent. Compared to his attitude towards Dazai who was his right-hand man and partner in crime, Mori was just fond of Yosano, which already turned into bitterness given her (understandably) antagonistic stance towards him and his ethics.

And boy, that soldier with the poetry book is going to rip all our hearts open.

And regarding the personnel trade, my friends and I have speculated for a while that it would most likely be Yosano or Dazai. Since it doesn’t make much sense that Mori would require an additional ability user when he technically already has an army, it was more likely a personal interest on Mori’s part. And that would rule out him accepting anyone from the ADA whom he didn’t have a personal interest in, including Tanizaki, even if he does offer himself to spare Yosano.

And while it is clear that Mori does still have some emotional attachment to Yosano, it does not mean that he would try to drag Yosano into the Mafia (or so I fucking hope). Also, it doesn’t take a genius to know how much Yosano hates the prospect of working under Mori again, so I believe the remaining ADA members (Tanizaki, Kenji, Atsushi, Kyouka, maybe even Dazai) will do everything in their power to make sure it doesn’t happen.

And while this is Yosano’s character arc, I don’t actually believe it would do her character development justice to have her work in the Mafia. On the contrary, her finding another way to settle the score with the Mafia while staying true to her ethical standards would be much more desirable. Especially since if she does end up in the Mafia, only heaven knows how much hell Mori can raise.

Or I am just in denial and praying that Yosano won’t have to go through that.

She will have to face the memories of her time in the military again, though. Boy is this going to turn out like it did with Odasaku.

Have I also mentioned that Mori’s increasing character depth never fails to amaze me?

Also, what if Fitzgerald is planning a trap? It’s not impossible since he has a gifted strategist on his side. We already know Mori’s instinct is usually on point. What if Fitzgerald is really working with the government? What if after Yosano heals Mitchell, he turns her, Atsushi and Kyouka over to the police? That way he wouldn’t have to let them use Eye of God.

After seeing this chapter, I can think of another outcome for the personnel trade. Maybe no one will end up being traded. Since Fyodor & Co. hasn’t really made a move on the Mafia yet, Mori is still fairly confident that he has an upper hand. But if the ADA somehow saves the Mafia’s ass, they will be even, and no trade will be necessary. We still don’t know the whereabouts of Natsume-sensei, who no doubt has an influence on Mori and his decisions. We also don’t know what Dazai is planning, how much he really knows, and how he communicates with the outside world. If he knows the situation with Fitzgerald, he might have been reading Mori’s moves up until this point too. And if he manages to offer Mori a better deal, maybe Yosano won’t have to be transferred.

Meanwhile, I will look forward to more Yosano flashback, a revelation on how she earned her title “Angel of Death”, and even more heartbreak when another precious character is brought to a breaking point :’(
