stupid lil bugs
idk but the hc that dazai still texts oda’s number way after his death tears me apart but also i refuse to believe he does otherwise
like when he leaves the pm, he’s staring at his phone. at the texts. replaying voice messages oda had sent, even if they’re overrun by the clattering of children in the background (there’s a lot of those, because oda’s orphans seemed to like shouting into his microphone, sending nonsensical voice messages to dazai, often ending in oda telling them not to harass dazai). and he doesn’t really know why he’s doing it, doesn’t know what he expects, but he ends up texting the number. it’s stupid and reckless, and could potentially get his location tracked, but he does it anyway. at one point, he finds himself crying. but he’s alone, and he lets it happen, even as he curls up into himself, the sight of his unread messages burning into his eyes as he sobs until he passes out
he keeps sending them until the number becomes unavailable. and even then he keeps going, ignoring the red message about how his texts are all undelivered.
he doesn’t stop even in the agency, and—
maybe when he does die, someone finds his phone. manages to open it. and everything in it is deleted, all traces gone for good. except for the long, years-worth of messages that dazai sent to oda. forever unread. ones he couldn’t bring himself to delete.
at least now, though, maybe he can tell him all the contents of the texts. and this time, oda will listen and smile and respond to them all in kind
i miss them :(
