So, it's about Shadow's gruesome love story with Sonic. That much is apparent. But, it's also:

-a story about self journey

-a lesson about letting go

-an absolute horror story (seriously, be ready for heaps of mc death)

and also a main focus on tails being insane.

The story takes place 20 years after the disappearance of Sonic, Tails, and gradually the entirety of Mobius. Shadow is the only one left, but after discovering that the world renowned hero still lives he dedicates his last bits of willingness in order to save and protect Sonic and keep Maria's wish. The events that unfold because of this are explored in Broken Trust.
