My piece for the Love & Youth Zine! @btszines

I can finally post my piece for @btszines!!! Thank you to everyone for supporting us and for making this such a wonderful experience 💕

Little breakdown of the piece under the cut~

Since the theme of this zine was Love + Youth, I wanted to base my piece around self love.

I think it’s so easy nowadays to get caught up in people’s opinions of us, in what society dictates as “perfect” and in the pressures that are put on us on a daily basis - to please and be what everyone wants us to be.

Because of that, it’s easy to lose a sense of yourself. To crumble in on ourselves and think that we’re not good enough just because we can’t satisfy everyone. To take ugly words to heart and to doubt every compliment you receive.

It can feel like you’re drowning and you can’t breathe. That’s what I wanted to represent with Tae being submerged upside down in water - the suffocating pressures that society places upon you, leaving no room for you to breathe and be yourself. The dark and desaturated palette represents self doubt/depreciation, depression, and isolation.

However, hold on to hope. I don’t think I really need to explain it, but the flowers blossoming from between Tae’s fingers represent such hope. They represent growth, new beginnings, love and warmth. They represent all the things you want to keep near and dear to you heart, the things that keep you afloat in a sea of darkness.

If nothing else, please, try to love yourself despite everything. I know it’s easier said than done, but try to remind yourself that you are definitely worth every single breath you take - your existence is valuable and don’t you forget that.

Remember that you are important to someone. Remember that you are doing so incredibly well. Remember that you deserve to live your life the way you want to, and not how others tell you to. Remember that I love you, am so proud of you, and my DMs are always open if u need me 💕

At the end of the day, the only person who will be with from the day you were born to the day you die will be yourself. Don’t change yourself for others, and don’t make others change solely for you. Keep the people who love you for who you are because they will bring you up, and not the ones who chase after a facade who will simply bring you down.

Don’t let what other people say or tell you define your self-worth. You are enough. No matter what they say.

Prove them wrong. 💪
