DAMN I LOVE MIAMI — PITBULL AND LIL JON
So my favorite buffy season is 6 and I know that can be controversial and everyone is entitled to their opinions and tastes..... HOWEVER, I really disagree with people saying characters, particularly the scoobies, behaved out of character. All the character's actions seem pretty grounded and understandable to me. That obviously does not mean I agree with what a lot of the characters do or that I think it's healthy but I understand them. Buffy having rough and sometimes violent sex with Spike is the only way she can feel anything in her deep depression and serves as a form of self-harm. She sleeps with Spike bc that's the only way she can feel and subsequently hates herself for sleeping with him. Willow has been shown in the past to rely on magic to try and fix problems in her relationships and her own emotional turmoil (3x08 Lovers Walk, 4x06 Wild at Heart, 4x09 Something Blue). So while it is extremely disheartening and upsetting that she does this with Tara it is not out of character. She also is definitely shown using more and more magic from season 3 onward pretty much exponentially. (I may give my opinion on the supposed retcon of how magic works later). Xander's unstable home life is hinted at throughout the series and his dream sequence in Restless can be interpreted as him being afraid of turning losing his heart and becoming his father. Anya even asks him in The Gift if he is only doing this bc he thinks they will die and that turns out to be true. Xander is uncomfortable with Anya's excitement about the wedding throughout the season leading up to Hell's Bells. Xander obviously should have voiced these feelings before the wedding and thinking he could just show up after leaving her at the altar and ask if they could still date was incredibly stupid but not out of character (Im not a big Xander fan I think he has his moments but this especially made me really dislike him. Even Giles leaving is not that unreasonable to me. I don't think it was necessarily the right call to leave Buffy as she was readjusting to living and clearly in a deep depression but I can see why Giles would think his presence as a parental figure was holding Buffy back.
tldr: Characters you love doing bad/irrational things or making bad/irrational decisions does not mean they are acting out of character. If they are complex characters (like the scoobies and other buffy characters) and written well then they are just acting like people do. Because people sometimes do bad/irrational things or make bad/irrational decisions for any number of reasons
Spikes’s Character in BTVS & ATS S5
WARNING! This is A Pro & Anti Spike Post. Remember we all see Spike’s character development a different way during the 2 shows. This post doesn’t include anything with the Buffyverse comics.
Spike Season 2, 3, and 4
Funny
Cool
Crazy
Daring
He was very entertaining to watch. Great Joss didn’t decide to kill Spike off in S2. He was originally supposed to die but he became a major fan favorite. I love this Spike.
Spike season 5 what I call Part 1 (before ‘Fool For Love’)
Funny
Cool
Crazy
Daring
Still very entertaining to watch just didn’t like they way he treated Harmony while they were together. Giles and Spike scenes are interesting to watch.
Spike Season 5 what I call Part 2 (’Fool For Love’ and episodes after)
Funny (Some times)
Creepy
Obsessive
Stalker
His character development started to go down. Writers shouldn’t have made him act all Buffy obsessive.
Spike Season 6
Way less funny
Annoying
Obsessive
Evil ( truly evil and not in a sexy way)
Worst version of his character and no longer entertaining to watch.
Spike Season 7
Funny (Some times)
Moody
Less annoying
Unapologetic
His character development went a little up when he wasn’t acting like BTVS season 5 part 2 all the way to season 6. Writers tried to make him into a copycat of Buffy’s well known love interest Angel which was lame. If he apologized to Buffy for what his soulless self did in season 6 ‘Seeing Red’ and to Robin for killing his mother in the past then I would like him a little more.
Angel the series Season 5
Funny
Cool
Crazy
Daring
He goes back to acting like season 2, 3, 4, and Part 1 of s5 btvs version of himself. The only thing that changed is instead of killing innocents he’s killing non-innocents since he’s all soulful now. Spike is once again entertaining to watch especially when he and Angel are bickering like brothers.
