Emiliano Sordi submits Bubba McDaniel
Say what you want about TUF 17 alum Bubba McDaniel, but he’s a real solid win for a fighter on the come up. And their middleweight division losing two or three of its best fighters, Bellator really needs Emiliano Sordi (13-4) to develop into something solid. The Argentinian was signed all the way back in 2013 at a Bellator tryout in Latin America. Apparently Bellator’s Fox sports deal is going pretty solidly down there.
Sordi will face AJ Matthews (7-3) on the prelims of Bellator 141 this Friday (August 28).

Bubba McDaniel and Charles Cheeks lead list of winners at Fury FC 7
HUMBLE, TX – Fury Fighting Championship 7 took place this past Saturday at the Humble Civic Center. Kicking off with an earlier start time of 4:30pm, Fury FC 7 served as a perfect complement to UFC 189 later that evening for Houston MMA fight fans.
In the main event of the evening, seasoned UFC/TUF vet Bubba McDaniel used his black belt level grappling acumen to take Edgar Verdin’s back and choke him out via RNC in the second round to secure victory. McDaniel is now winner of 4 out of his last 5 fights since his last UFC appearance back in March 2014.
In the co-main event, Charles Cheeks defeated former Paradigm teammate Edgar Juarez by unanimous decision to move to an impressive 9-3 overall. Juarez drops to 4-2 as a pro following his biggest test yet. Look for both men to stay active following the competitive bout.
Elsewhere at Fury FC 7, 37 year old former Legacy champ Ray Blodget had no issue with journeyman Edwynn “Ox” Jones and defeated the late replacement by guillotine quickly in the first round of their bout.
Elite MMA’s top prospect Trevin Giles passed his biggest test yet as a pro as he defeated Terrance Ferguson by TKO to move to 3-0. The 22 year old has finished all 3 of his pro opponents thus far, all in the first round.
A pair of Metro Fight Club prospects concluded the pro card with wins as Jacob Silva also won his first pro bout by triangle choke submission over Albert Tapia in the first round to move to 1-2 while Adrian Yanez moved to 3-1 with his own triangle submission over D’Neareon Seymore.
Amateurs Melvin Giron, EJ Turner and Madison Johnson round out the winners at Fury FC 7. Check out complete results and photo highlights below.

Fury Fighting Championship 7 Preview
By TXMMA Staff
Fury FC 7 brings in their first UFC/TUF vet to compete against Houston MMA veteran; Other prospects to watch
HUMBLE, TX – Fury Fighting Championship 7 hits the Humble Civic Center this Saturday, July 11th. The mixed pro-am card is currently set to feature 14 fights overall for Houston MMA fight fans with a plethora of veteran pros expected to compete on the card. Also of note is the unusual start time of 4:30pm as the promotion looks to wrap up prior to UFC 189 and the Conor McGregor show.
Headlining Fury FC 7 is a matchup between local veteran scrapper Edgar Verdin and a UFC vet out of Jackson’s MMA, Bubba McDaniel. The Houston native (Verdin) has been on a hot streak heading into this fight with 3 wins in a row. Meanwhile his opponent is 3-1 in his last four and looking to get another one on the way back to the big leagues. It’s an interesting matchup with a contrast of styles between striker and grappler. It’s also the biggest test yet for Verdin as Fury FC brings in their first UFC vet combatant yet to compete in this upcoming light heavyweight main event.
Speaking of big tests, Paradigm FC’s Edgar Juárez accepted one for the co-main event of the evening as he takes his 4-fight win streak into battle against Charles Cheeks. With an 8-3 record, Charles has over twice as many fights as Juárez and also brings with him great wrestling to go along with his natural athletic ability so he’ll be formidable. Edgar fights with a lot of heart and is skilled himself however so this fight should be a good one. It will also serve as a barometer regarding each fighters’ prospects headed into the future.
Other fights/fighters worthy of note for Fury FC 7:
Former Legacy FC lightweight champion Ray Blodget returns to the cage looking for his second win in a row after coming back from a year-long hiatus. He’s been expected to take on Kolton Englund but it is probable that he’ll now be fighting longtime jobber Edwynn “Ox” Jones instead. Stay tuned on opponent but Ray will be one to watch either way.
Heavyweights Dale Mitchell and Eric Lunsford look to test the limits of the Fury FC cage as they vie for bragging rights near the top of Texas’ shallow heavyweight talent pool.
Perennial top prospect Domingo Pilarte continues his steady climb up the ladder on the way to the big leagues against journeyman Landon Ackel.
Please do not take this image from me without permission.
Elite MMA’s Trevin Giles looks to stay undefeated as a pro against seasoned grappler/fighter Terrance Ferguson and much more.

Uriah Hall vs. Bubba McDaniel
TUF 17 finalist Uriah Hall (10-4) is set to compete on the prelims for UFC 187 this Saturday (May 23rd). Riding a two fight winning streak, he’s set to face Rafael Natal (19-6-1). With Reign MMA having shut down recently because of Mark Munoz’s retirement, I wonder where Hall’s been training.

UFC Fight Night 27 Results - Condit wins; Texans fall

UFC Fight Night 27 Results – Condit beats Kampmann; Dos Anjos corrals Cerrone
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, August 29, 2013 – Welterweight Carlos Condit began his comeback tour last night in Indianapolis in the main event of UFC Fight Night 27 with a win over Martin Kampmann. The two had previously faced off in April 2009 with Kampmann earning the split decision over “Natural Born Killer” in his first UFC fight following his long stint in the WEC. With consecutive losses to Johny Hendricks and champion Georges St. Pierre heading into this bout, it was crucial that Condit find success and he did just that in the fourth with pinpoint combinations forcing the referee stoppage over a bloodied Kampmann.
In the co-main event of the evening Donald Cerrone (like Condit, also from Jackson’s MMA) did not do as well in falling victim to a streaking lightweight divisional contender in Rafael dos Anjos. The Brazilian opened the bout aggressively and took control with his striking in this oen while “Cowboy” was mostly content trying to attack from his guard to no avail. With the win, Dos Anjos is now coming dangerously close to knocking on the door of top title contender status in the crowded 155 lbs. division currently ruled by champion Benson Henderson, who takes on Anthony Pettis at UFC 164 this coming Saturday in defense of his title.
Texas vets drop bouts – Brian Melancon bested by Kelvin Gastelum; Takeya Mizugaki decisions Erik Perez; McDaniel losses to Brad Tavares
Gutsy Houstonian Brian Melancon (Paradigm Training Center) fell victim to a streaking fighter in TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 27. It seemed like Gastelum was almost a bigger version of him with his aggression in this one. The TUF vet pressed the action from the get-go with a double-leg takedown attempt (that was defended well by Melancon) and he didn’t stop from there immediately moving forward with a few punch combinations that found their mark. A left, right, uppercut series dropped Brian and the 21 year old prospect Gastelum jumped on him right away to take the rear-naked choke for the win.
Earlier on in the evening former McAllen-based (RGV) standout Erik “Goyito” Perez dropped a close split decision to Takeya Mizugaki in their bout. Both fights had their moments in this one but it was Mizugaki who edged things out with a few stiff counter right hands that bloodied Goyito’s nose along with some superior grappling in the third.
Likewise Wichita Falls, Texas native Bubba McDaniel dropped his first official UFC bout to Brad Tavares following seven official wins in a row.
Court McGee earns second straight win over Robert Whittaker
Rounding out the main card on FOX Sports 1, TUF Smashes winner Robert Whittaker was unable to build on the momentum of his last win over Colton Smith in his fight versus another TUF winner in Court McGee at UFC Fight Night 27. Whittaker’s boxing was on point early in this one but McGee just kept walking forward in trademark fashion to earn his points en route to the decision win.
