James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes is one of the most tragic and complex characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first introduced as the loyal best friend of Steve Rogers. After being captured during World War II, Bucky was tragically turned into the brainwashed assassin known as the Winter Soldier by HYDRA. Following his ultimate de-programming and path to atonement, his life took yet another unexpected turn as he sought a new way to contribute to the world. A recent development in the MCU revealed that Bucky ran for and actually won a seat in the U.S. Congress, becoming a congressman for Brooklyn. This surprising move was an attempt to find a non-violent, more "normal" way to help his country and use his status for good. Despite this, his congressional career proved to be short-lived, as he soon realized his true calling lay back in the field with a new team of heroes, the Thunderbolts.
