Definitely good enough, these fellas are distinct. It's a Florida buck moth. Adults are harmless but the caterpillars have stinging spines, so don't touch! Here's a child:

Buck Moth (Hemileuca maia) • Wingspan is 50-75 mm (2-3 in), with females being larger than males. • Adults fly during sunny days from September to October in Eastern North America. • Habitat is scrub oak, live oak, blackjack oak, and dwarf chestnut oak. Adults do not feed. • Eggs overwinter and hatch in spring. • The spiny buck moth caterpillars can sting, causing itching, swelling, and redness.
Was gonna do hand studies today but did a lil sloppy buck moth painting instead.

Hemileuca maia
From the saturniidae family. They have a wingspan of about 50-80 mm. They can be found in the united states. This species' larvae are covered in hollow spines that are attached to a poison sac and can be dangerous for humans to touch.

1st time seeing a buck moth! Found this guy a few weeks ago in my backyard. I felt so lucky to find two saturniids in one year, this one after the polyphemus moth! I found out their host plant is oak so I put him up in a tree.
04/17/24 - Lago Vista, TX - ANOTHER WHAT’S THIS - This is our first Springtime in our new to us home. Spending lots of time in the yard trying to whip our property into shape. Finding all kinds of plants and bugs and my curiosity has been slowly evolving into a new hobby: identifying what they are with the help of some apps on my phone - simply upload a pic to the app and it will give you one or more suggestions. So what’s this gnarly looking caterpillar? It might be the precursor to a Buck Moth. Any other ideas out there?
