BUCKLEY-HAN. BUCKLEY-HAN. BUCKLEY-HAN.
Hello. It is I. Requesting a part 2. What the hell does Maddie say to that? 🥺😭
Part 1
*HAPPY BIRTHDAY @maddieandchimney! and now i know it's been a while since this fic, but i was sorting through drafts, so it's time.*
Not nearly as cute as you. :)
Maddie would have squealed if she was any younger, and any less tired, after shift work and a baby who just wouldn't stop moving, but now, sharing the space with her baby was a rush of butterflies. She didn't know if she should feel ashamed of herself. She was still, technically married, no matter how abusive, and how far away across the country she was hiding.
But Chimney made her feel something, a spark she hadn't felt in years, a warmth of safety that she had been ripped away from the moment she was tangled in Doug's web. Maddie felt free for the first time in years, speaking her mind around him, without fearing the consequences.
Her hands still hovered above the keyboard, waiting for her brain to catch up to her heart, to process everything she could feel into a comprehensible sentence. Of course Chimney used emoticons, Maddie thought was a fond smile, but the more she thought, the more she wished she didn't. Maybe he didn't mean it like that. Maybe Chimney had made a nice comment as a friend, to quell her many concerns about her appearance, maybe none of this mattered and maybe now she was thinking about things too much.
Another grey message bubble popped up from Chimney, and it occurred to her that she had just been staring at her phone, daydreaming, worrying, for 5 minutes, more than enough time for Chimney to begin reconsidering his message, and overthinking more than she was.
Sorry, didn't mean to overstep
It would be perfectly alright, more than perfectly alright for Maddie to reciprocate, right? Everything would end up just fine if she gave in to her feelings just this once, if she fed this feeling of absolute bliss and see where it took her, them. He gave her the care and love that she had been deprived of for so long, and letting herself fall, just this once, wouldn't hurt. Would it?
Not at all, personally, I think you're cuter ;)
