Hocus Pocus (1993)
#Bucktoothed #pig on a #Carousel in #Paris. (at Apprentis d'Auteuil)
There are at least 3 to 4 portraits of Ishida Mitsunari and apparently, those paintings are made based on Mitsunari’s skull. After his body and decapitated head was displayed in Sanjōgawara, the whole corpse was buried in Daitokuji, part of a temple called Sangen-in, which Mitsunari built during his lifetime. Some say that the gate of Mitsunari’s residence in Fushimi was moved to Sangen-in.
After more than 300 years, Mitsunari’s grave in Sangen-in was dug up in 1907 by a historian called Watanabe Seiu of Tokyo Imperial University to aid him in writing Mitsunari’s biography. Adachi Buntarō from the anatomy section of Tokyo University did a research on Mitsunari’s remains and photographed his skull. The results revealed that Mitsunari was moderately good-looking, was someone bucktoothed who died at the age of 41.
In 1976, Mitsunari’s face was reconstructed with gypsum by the request of Mitsunari’s descendant, Ishida Takayuki. The reconstruction was done by the former head of the science section of Tokyo Metropolitan Police, Nagayasu Shūichi. At the same time, Mitsunari’s height was measured and the measurement reveals that he was 156 cm tall. On March 1980,a Japanese painter called Maeda Mikio drew Mitsunari’s portrait based on the reconstruction and guidance from Ishida Tetsurō of Kansai Medical University. Mitsunari’s portrait is now displayed in the main tower of Osaka castle.
