Sweetie influencing Bud Dearborne reminds me strongly of how Salome is influencing Bill.
I love that Andy and Jason recognizes that Bud is the dragon because of the boots they gave him in season 3 at his retirement party. That was a nice callback!
This show wasn't subtle about Bud Dearborne being the dragon for the hate group. Even in season 1, he showed signs of bigotry against the vampires. And they wouldn't have randomly brought him back in season 5 just for a cameo appearance.
Bud is quitting his job as sheriff. I don't feel sorry for him since he sucks at his job.
Looking at the Bon Temps police department in the first two seasons, they are probably the most incompetent cops I have ever seen. I feel bad Jason gets scapegoated by fans when he becomes a police officer in season 3 because those same fan conveniently ignore when the other cops (Bud, Andy, Kenya, Kevin etc) acted like bumbling fools/poor law-enforcers.
In other words, the Bon Temps police department sucked long before Jason joined it.
Glad that Kenya called out Bud for that racist joke he made about Miss Jeanette dying.
Andy: Psycho son of a bitch, going after an old lady that way. It’s about the sickest thing I’ve ever seen.
Sheriff Dearborne: Nah, I’ve seen worse. There was a murder about six years ago. Lady snapped, blew her husband’s head off while he was watching the game. Big chunks of brain all over the TV.
Andy: Why’d she do it?
Sheriff Dearborne: I guess she wanted to watch something else.
