Indefinite Tumblr Hiatus

With 2026 rolling around, as our world continues to get worse with each passing day and people show just how depraved and morally bankrupt they can be, I find myself having lost interest in social media discourse. Part of it may be due to depression on my end, or not having anyone to really talk to since most of my mutuals have either moved on to other things in their lives, or don't post a lot on Tumblr anymore. It doesn't help that one particular mutual/friend I've been close with for nearly 7 years was recently shadowbanned despite them not having broken any rules on this site, to the point I've only been able to contact them via Email now.

Either way, I don't really have a strong justification for staying on Tumblr anymore. I haven't really enjoyed being on here for a while now, and the only reason I didn't quit the site after Trump's victory in the 2024 Election was because I made a promise to myself that I would finish up the Stranger Things reviews I had planned out, as well as get through season 5 once it dropped (which it has).

I already discussed in my Stranger Things reviews that 2025 would likely be the final year I'd engage in online discourse, as well as how Stranger Things would be the last time I ever take part in a fandom. Given how the show ended, as well as the odious, entitled, and petty behavior I've seen from certain parts of the ST fandom (both during season 5 and in its aftermath), that's only reinforced my resolve that it's time to move on. I admittedly stayed on Tumblr for an extra month to emotionally process and post about Stranger Things 5, but I know I need to leave before my mind (fueled with anxieties and insecurities) starts picking apart every little detail about the show (whether that's through me being influenced by stupid bad-faith takes that fans are currently putting out there, or else me looking for closure in the wrong places) to the point I no longer enjoy it.

I've privately messaged a few mutuals about whether they'd be interested in me finishing up the Stranger Things reviews, and I haven't really gotten an enthusiastic response (doesn't help some of them were either disappointed about how season 5 turned out, or else lost interest in the show a while ago). I do believe there are aspects of season 5 (both the good and the bad) that deserve to be analyzed, and I can at least unpack some of my thoughts and feelings about the recent seasons while untangling myself from dominating online fan opinions by doing these reviews. I may hold off on doing the reviews until The Complete Scripts for Season 5 are released (July 2026), which will give me time to do a rewatch beforehand to see if my opinion of the show has changed now that I know how it ends.

In the meantime, I may get one more review for a tie-in done in the next few days (Starcourt Mall Escape), which will serve as a temporary goodbye on my part.

Stranger Things aside though...................I've been worn out for a while now with internet discourse. Every day, it's just more bad news, doomerism, internet users either trying to get a rise out of people or else posting godawful takes that nobody asked for...............and I've just reached my limit. Like I said earlier, I would've left after the 2024 Election, especially with the number of Leftists/3rd Party/Uncommitted Voters on this site (and off it) who enabled Trump to be reelected (to say nothing about how those creeps were pretty goddamn smug about it) and are continuing to double-down on making excuses for their shitty choices in the name of 'moral purity' as Trump, his cronies, and the GOP continue to hurt and kill other people with their policies. That's also including how Leftists abandoned the very morals, progressive causes, and minority groups they claimed to champion when it was convenient for them. 'Disgusted' isn't even a good enough word to describe how I feel towards them.

But I digress. My point is I'm just done. I'm done with social media. I'm done having people project their bullshit onto me. I'm done having my words taken out-of-context. I'm done trying to be nice to those who are purposefully being vicious. Everyone has a breaking point, and I reached mine a while ago.

What does this mean for me on Tumblr? I probably won't be posting as much. Asks are permanently turned off (and it's going to stay that way because I'm sick to death of scammers flooding the inbox). If you want something removed, you may have to go to @/staff about that. I'm not deleting my account, but I won't be a frequent visitor on here like I've been in the past (meaning there may be months that go by where I don't check the notifications), and I will likely turn on settings to limit visibility to my blog. I plan to find something other than Tumblr to fill the void for the future.

I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to @stillhidden @skellybonesandtrees @pusheen1802 @spaghettificationandpretzels and @lavandulaphoenix for all the wonderful conversations we've had together over the years (both about shows, fandoms, politics, social issues, etc). I genuinely wish all of you well in wherever life takes you! :) This is NOT a permanent goodbye. I'll still be here for the next week to get that review done, and I will be back at some point to do the season 5 reviews, but this is me slowly distancing myself from the platform. If you didn't get to read all my Stranger Things reviews yet (all of which were written prior to the end of season 5), I'll post them here one last time. So, uh

Sam Neill passed away.

A lot of people know him as Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park, but Sam Neill has an incredible catalogue of film and television, stretching back to 1975 on the big screen, but he cut his teeth in university productions of Shakespearean dramas.

All this to say, Sam Neill never let himself get pigeonholed as an actor. He was an incredibly versatile actor with a plethora of roles and genres to his name.

And that's not even touching upon his interests outside of acting. He was a passionate vintner (of the Two Paddocks winery) and an outspoken environmentalist who frequently spoke out against political policy that negatively affected indigenous peoples in Australia and New Zealand.

Jurassic Park is an incredible film, and I know many people have fond memories of the original trilogy.

But Sam Neill was more than just Dr. Grant. And I think that should be remembered too.

The funny thing is I think some of the people who are obsessed with getting younger candidates into high level government positions want to vote once for a guy who says the right things and then not have to vote anymore. Somehow this is not entrenched power, though.

You can tell the way they talk about voting that they think if they just find the Great White Hope, they'll have reached the end of their YA novel and never have to worry about the Bad People again.

That's why they keep mocking libs when we remind them that they'll have to keep voting at least every two years for the rest of their lives to remain vigilant. Because that's literally how democracy works.

HOUSE OF THE DRAGON S03E04 — “Tumbleton”

What if you had the face and the faith and the kindness of a mother you never really knew because she sent you away to protect you from the place that trapped and abused her but you ended up trapped and abused all the same stuck in the same cycle bound to a man supposed to protect you and love you but instead sees you as a means to put his blood on the throne and now despite the fact that you are so kind you must become so cruel to please him because all you have ever known is pleasing him happened to my good friend daeron targaryen

I love how the new episode portrays the bond between dragons and their riders. Daemon and Caraxes are so familiar with each other, Daemon smacks the saddle and tells him to shush like a friend. Though, of course we also have the continuing theme of dragons refusing to obey which is great. Daemon is an experienced rider of 30+ years, it’s not like Rhaena or Aemond where you could argue they weren’t skilled enough, it’s a blatant show that dragons could simply choose not to obey at any time and the riders are completely helpless.

Aegon and Rhaena are both really interesting in how they mirror their dragons. Aegon is injured and dying/dead, the first time we’ve seen him happy since Rook’s Rest is with Sunfyre again. It almost gives the vibe that he wishes he could curl up and die next to his dragon.

Meanwhile Rhaena has fully changed her look to match Sheepstealer’s wild nature. It’s a bond that’s clearly grown a lot stronger since Ep 1 as now he listens to her, she can fly with ease, and he’s very protective. For once, she argues back against her father, denies him, insults his ideas for how they can fix it. Completely refuses to even consider giving Sheepstealer up. Obviously there are a lot of other factors but it suggests that just being around Sheepstealer is influencing her own behavior. After all, she does claim “He is a part of me.” (He’s not in the episode but Aemond very similarly changes his whole personality after claiming Vhagar.)

Lastly, Daeron, who clearly loves Tessarion but has her locked up, a very literal metaphor for choosing his Hightower side over his Targ side. And she follows his lead into violence immediately after Daeron kills Kat’s brother, burning the corpse and notably stomping all over the candles, the symbol of his past piety and his gentleness. They’re very wordlessly in sync, possibly because she was a cradle hatchling so they’ve had that bond for years and even as he rejects his Targaryen blood, he’ll have that connection to her that can’t be broken.
