In a world where a name on your wrist defines who you're destined to be with, James Rhodes finds himself in a bit of a pickle, when he finds that his mark not only comes five years later than it is supposed to but it has only one name: his own.

He will befriend campus prodigy Tony Stark who shares a similar fate as his own — he, too, doesn't have a mark by the time he turns 18. But that comes to an end, several years later, when one Captain America is found and awakens from his 70 years sleep, now carrying a familiar last name on his wrist.

literally a Top-Tier dynamic if marvel realized the potential, im not gonna compare with other ships bc that’s not the point but Rhodey & Bucky have so much in common im honest to god not reaching when I list all the stuff they have in common 

Rhodey & Bucky would get each other right away, having shared the same role in relation to the people that have linked them together (Tony & Steve). It might sound cliche to say but they WOULD bond over being the best friend, the caretaker, the sidekick. They WOULD bond over the experiences that has brought to them. 

There are two common misconceptions regarding Rhodey & Bucky in relation to Tony & Steve and I thought it was important to note: people think Rhodey begrudgingly puts up with Tony and they think Bucky’s the wild card, crazy party boy to Steve’s quiet little self, there’s nothing further from the truth. Rhodey enjoys and engages in Tony’s ‘shenanigans’, Rhodey’s banter-y, he’s quippy and he’s a troll himself. Bucky is definitely not the reckless idiot of the equation between him & Steve. No. Bucky’s not the one who lies four times in his enlistment form, he’s not the one picking up fights with guys twice his size. Bucky’s just the guy who wanted to spend his last day before being shipped off to war in a science fair on a double date with his best friend & some gal he liked. 

Why do I mention that? Because this means Rhodey & Bucky meet half-way, perfectly balanced. They’re not reckless and wild or boring and stuck-ups (and they’re also not Tony & Steve in the sense of ‘opposites attrack’). Because they’re not quite opposites. 

Bucky & Rhodey complement each other without challenging each other, which is great for both of them because they’re not the kind of people who need to be pushed or changed. 

They share their core traits (loyalty, honesty, resilience) & that strenghtens their respect and understanding of their differences (way of seeing the world, ways of approaching life, maybe even idealisms). 

They have a no-bullshit attitude & that’s why they’re able to be themselves fully around each other. Like, they would easily talk about the tough shit bc they know the other is on the same page as he is. 

I mean, Rhodey is a Libra & Bucky is a Pisces, need I say more????

bucky saw him drinking plain, unassuming black coffee & went "oh im gonna Change your life"

but rhodey gave him a soft ass look & thought to himself "you have no idea"
