But really back to jimbo having problems using his trollish strength and other ideas in that vein :
I’m still trying to figure things out. But I’m thinking of Jim either realizing that he’s much stronger than he thought OR the trollish adults in his life noticing that Jim really has no idea on how to get a good handle on how much pressure he applies to stuff without really meaning to. They both end in the same way
Like a few weeks after the eternal night Jimbo is still working under the assumption that he isn't as strong as full trolls because he’s only half-troll. Plus what I’ve said earlier about him having “Oh trolls are stronger than humans and I’m human” for a while still, even after he became a troll and everything
Though he would eventually realize that he does need help when it comes to control because of either this or that. Let’s say that he got stressed or angry about something and couldn’t stop breaking things in his room. He accidentally bent the lamp in his desk, broke his chair in 2 pieces and accidentally ripped a bunch of his pajamas while he was trying to calm down
With each blunder he gets more and more distressed and afraid. He thought of calling his mom ….. but what if he hurt her without meaning too ? Just like he broke a bunch of stuff in his room completely by accident, as much as he genuinely tried to avoid it ? So he calls for a bit more trollish type of help
And like I’ve said before the result is more or less the same. The trollish adults ask themselves how they didn’t notice it before, and then get to help Jimbo anyway they can, by comforting him and also by teaching control
And so, until Jim gets a better handle on his new and clearly very buffed strength stat, he moves in with the troll husbands in trollmarket for a bit
Arrrgh, Blinky, Draal and Strickler all play a part in helping the trollhunter learn better control. The scholar comes up with a bunch of different puzzles and other activities designed to help with this very thing, such as puzzles sets with each one being a little more fragile than the previous one
And it really helps that Blinky has multiple sets of the same difficulty (especially the harder, more easy to break puzzles). And the unwavering, reassuring smile from the four-armed trolls never faltered with, it felt like he could try as many times as it took for him to get it right, even if he somehow ruined all of the puzzle sets, and that helped a lot (because it was true)
Draal and Strickler really helped him when it came to controlling his strength in combat !! Like, if you fear seriously hurting your sparring buddy, but you also don’t wanna go too easy on them (that’s practically a crime, or at least very rude in trollish culture). Thus you can use the first few punches in a fight to gauge how much power they can take, before going loose with it for real (that’s draal advice)
Strickler advice is more geared towards subduing an enemy that you still need alive for information, but still wanna show that you mean business and won’t get pushed around, even if you’re holding back some (or a lot) in order to not straight up kill them. It’s a bit assassin-based for the trollhunter tastes BUT still really useful
Though the one that really helps out and empathizes the most with Jimbo's situation is Arrghmount of-course !! You know that feeling when you’re feeling really stressed about something ? And it feels like the end of the world ? But then you talk to your parents or friends (anyone you trust and look up to, really) and get to feel that huge wave of relief ? Because you feel comforted and heard, while the problem in question feels smaller and much more manageable with their wisdom and loving care
Those are the vibes that troll tennager has with krubera in those moments. Arrrgh feels like a big solid warm boulder that he can always count and lean on
So after a few weeks, he not only has more than enough control, but also confidence enough in his control to go back home and to his mom as well
Also? I just like to headcannon that there would be a lot of things like that, because he’s still getting used to being a troll and learning how to be one. There's would be lots of moments where quite literally stumbles on stuff that’s new for him
Like being really mindful of low-doors frames when he goes through them because of his horns, he kept bumping them a LOT, because it really just took that long to not only sink-in that he got tall. But also to outgrow the mindset he had when he was only 5’6 feet tall and didn’t have really cool horns
Until that happened. Well let’s just say that Jimbo here got a lot of practice fixing roughed up door frames
Though there’s also a lot of upsides to his situation and cool stuff he can do now, that he just couldn’t before !!
For example, since Jim is the one who really cooks in the lake residency (plus all the other chores he does), it’s not that much of a stretch to assume, that he’s also the one who makes the groceries lists in the first place (it’s also just really easy to imagine jimbo judging the hell out of tomatoes while in the supermarket, because he wants to do homemade pizzas, and for that he also needs to make a homemade sauce, he won’t bring bad tomatoes for that operation).
Though he can’t really buy the groceries of the month by himself. And it’s not because his mom doesn't trust him with money (seriously, he’s really good at budgeting and making good use of sales). It’s because that even if it is just the two of them, it’s still quite a lot of things to buy and he couldn’t carry all of those home by himself
So they have to wait for those days in the month where his mom is free from work and not absolutely exhausted. And with how much of a caretaker the lake son is, I like to think that he was waiting for the day he was old enough to get a license so he would be able to go by himself. That giving his mom more free time to rest and stuff
But then the whole trollhunting thing happened and there certainly wasn’t a lot of free time for him to get a license himself. But now ? Now he doesn’t need no stinking license to do what he wants !! Because he’s a big strong troll and can carry ALL of the groceries home without breaking a sweat >:D
He might even get a big fat hero-discount on some items he buys
