I know there’s a lot of debate on who makes the better dad, But honestly I think it’s a team effort. Both of them bring a unique perspective that Jim can relate to and need in his life, and I’m so here for it.

The first introduction of a character usually reveals his personality and makes the strongest impression of him, and I like that despite Strickler's true identity, his first appearance in the series is connected with caring about Jim.

Strickler is interested in his student's condition and suggests supporting him, even though Jim hasn't asked for it. Strickler acts with unfamiliar gentleness when he hands a book to Jim – even his advice sounds friendly. And Walter's appearance (the prevalence of warm brown shades in his costume) makes a good impression of a history teacher.

Yeah, it's understandable that in some sense we were led down the garden path, because all in all Strickler turned out to be a trollhunter's enemy. However, Walt's caring attitude toward Jim can be seen throughout the whole series, even when his interactions with the trollhunter are at the peak of confrontation and mutual hatred.

So that's the reason why this episode with Walter is so important to me – at first, the series shows us Strickler not as an evil changeling (aka an unequivocal enemy for the main character), but as a person who is able to sympathize with others.
