i think about holden telling buffy she might think she’s better than the men she dates and it’s like bro. she’s OBJECTIVELY superior to them and everyone else, because she’s the slayer. buffy doesn’t charge per dusting of a vamp or beheading of a demon bc it’s literally her sacred duty to execute those connected to the forces of darkness. so yeah. she IS better, and it always felt like she got punished by the narrative BECAUSE she was better. because she was tasked to be the primordials’ natural enemy, because being a slayer is humanity’s sacrifice of little girls so that they can have one more day of light in their lives. and was it selfish of the first humans to sacrifice sineya and the girls after her? of course it was, but it was equally selfless of sineya and the rest of the slayers up to and including buffy for fighting for as long as they did. the slayers were humanity’s last defense against primordial evil, and yet they love, love, LOVED to make them suffer every step of the way until death finally released them.
