You know what I really want more than a Buffy reboot/sequel? Buffy prequels set in different time periods throughout history.

Like, give me a Slayer in Ancient Greece who was a daughter of Sparta and a priestess of Artemis.

Give me a Slayer in New Kingdom Egypt who was venerated as the incarnation of a goddess.

Give me a Slayer in feudal Japan who was trained by her former samurai Watcher.

Give me a Regency era Slayer, the daughter of a duke who manages to be the epitome of a proper lady while also slaying vampires in a pretty dress.

Give me a cowgirl Slayer in the Wild West, all the Wynonna Earp vibes, a desert gunslinger killing supernatural creatures down in the valleys.

Chloé Zhao is going around saying how she loved Spuffy when she was younger but now that she’s in her 40s she appreciates Riley more and thinks it should be a little less Spike and a little more Riley 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

Honestly, that’s even worse than preferring Angel. So, be afraid, people. Be very afraid.

I honestly thought everything James has been saying about the revival was a good sign but after this, let’s not get our hopes up. If Spike isn’t going to be treated right I hope he’s not even mentioned. Better to not have him in it at all than to have him being written by people who don’t understand the character.

I was excited about Chloé Zhao’s involvement because she’s great at writing character driven stuff and Spike is, without a doubt, one of the most fascinating characters ever written but once again it seems hoping he would be better understood this time around is too big of an ask even for someone like her.

If only this was being handled by the people behind Interview With the Vampire, you know? Can you imagine?

ok ok if spike and angel ARE gonna be in the revival for real, i really really hope they don't make physical appearances on screen. bc like. yeah you COULD explain them as having aged due to the shanshu prophecy or just de-age them with cgi or fucking whatever, but why would you do that when it could be so much funnier to have buffy periodically be like "hrm. this is getting out of hand, kids. please excuse me i need to make a call real quick." cue her calling a mystery number. over the phone several cartoonish crash-bang-etc sounds can be heard. muffled shouting. then spike answers like "hiiii buffy little busy rn but angel has it covered whats up" and she's like "what the hell what's going on over there. is there an apocalypse i don't know about?" "NOPE. i'm teaching angel videogames and he's not good at them" or some shit like that. they're never doing anything important but she calls them to remind her of random little bits of exposition. nothing huge or overly plot relevant, just tiny bits of backstory and lore from the og show to fill in little gaps. or something. it's never specified if she's dating one, both, or neither of them, or if their relationship has fully chilled out or not, but they're always in Some Kinda Situation. figuring out modern technology, going grocery shopping, solving an inconsequential mystery that they're taking VERY seriously, trying to fix a house problem, etc. do you see the vision

I know Eliza Dushku wants to focus on her new career, and I love that for her, but in thinking about where Faith might be, twenty years later… I do like the idea of her following a similar progression to Eliza as well.

Like one of the first things I see Faith thinking about after Sunnydale and the Slayer spell is about the Slayers who end up like her - thinking that the power they have as Slayers make them above human laws, not concerned with who gets hurt because on balance, they do more good than bad.

So I see Faith gravitating into a position where she is trying to look out for and help these troubled girls made superheroes, trying to do something to help them from making the same kind of mistakes she did, give them the support she didn’t have.

That just feels like a thing that Faith would end up doing with her life in the post-Slayer spell world.

Like considering some of the realities out of universe with some actors, I’d like to see some “where are they now” style tie in novels for those characters who aren’t likely to show up, and Faith definitely would be at the top of the list of novels I’d snap up in a heartbeat.

The Buffy revival being cancelled right before the potential Firefly animated series was announced is the weirdest string of events I’ve witnessed as of late.
