As some of you know, this fall I’m going back to grad school to study Adolescent History Education, with the intent of making a move into Holocaust education.
But I’ve been brainstorming about how to AI-proof my classes, if I had total freedom. It would look something like this:
-no homework
-no computers
-all written work happens in class by hand or via a typewriter
-all readings are handed out on class
-full seminar style Socratic questions based on readings and primary source handouts. If students are not comfortable speaking in front of their classmates, they can attend office hours.
-finals and midterms have two components: a typed assignment that you do at your typewriter, and a conversation with me in which I evaluate your critical thinking abilities
I mean i don’t know if it’s pedagogically sound and no school would ever allow this, but damn it would be amazing
