I believe Ahn-ya (like haunt, as someone else said) is how the name is most often pronounced in European countries and/or Russia? That's how I've always heard it pronounced (I've known several people named Anya, or even spelled Anna but pronounced as Anya). But for most other names it can go either way here, such as Anna (Ah-na or Ann-a), or Andrea (Ahn-dré-a or Ann-dree-a). Then there's the opposite effect with names like Tara, with Americans saying Tair-a and Brits saying Tarr-a.

True, that’s another way of putting it Ahn-ya. With a soft A. I know like I said, that different places will say it differently but again, On-ya is pretty strange. Where is the O sound coming from? Or possibly the way American’s say A can come across as an O? 

Don’t get me started on Tara. :P

Hi! Do you have any recommendations for books about Norse mythology for someone who has little to no prior knowledge of it?I'm sorry if something similar has already been answered, I looked through your faq and tag for books about mythology, but I'm not sure where to start!

No, I’ve never been asked about Norse mythology specifically, you’re fine haha. I would say defer to those who have more knowledge than me, because mine is quite shallow, so here’s a couple of extensive recommendation lists.

I do that too. I like the other person’s response, all of my suggestions are pretty similar. Just make sure he knows it’s not /him/ and that you’re not mad at him or something!
