I’m like 5 million years late replying to this. Sorry! Thank you so much for the request.
7. You’ve gone to the bathroom fifty times today.
Ever since moving to New York City, Betty had felt like she was living in a fairytale. With Jughead by her side in their tiny one bedroom apartment, she couldn’t imagine life getting any better than this.
And yet, something was… unsettling. There was a thorn in her side that simply wouldn’t come out. Finally, she knew what she had to do.
“Hey, Jug?” She called toward the bathroom.
“Yeah?” His voice was at an odd pitch as though something was going on, but Betty’s nerves caused her to push that thought aside.
“I think we need to go back. Today.”
The bathroom door swung open immediately. “But… We can’t. Any other day. Just… Not today.”
“If we don’t go today, we’ll keep putting it off and never end up going. I just need some peace. After being away for three years, I think it’s important for Riverdale to just be a random dot on a map, rather than a hellhole that still haunts me.” Betty saw he still wasn’t on board. She walked toward him and placed her hands on either side of his face. “Please, Jug. I don’t want to do this alone.”
He couldn’t say no to those light blue-green eyes peering up at him.
“Fine… I just have to run to the bathroom first.”
In a booth at Pop’s, Betty let out a sigh of relief. They were still alive. Chaos had not ensued. Yet.
Jughead plopped down on the other side of the booth, but the moment he was in his seat, his phone started to buzz. “I… Have to go to the bathroom.” He was about to stand, but Betty laid her hand on his.
“You’ve gone to the bathroom fifty times today. What’s going on?”
He sighed, then mumbled something inaudibly.
“What?” Betty leaned in closer.
“I hired a quartet and then told them not to come since we wouldn’t be home. But now they keep calling and I’ve been trying to hide it.”
She smiled and let a small laugh escape her lips. “Did you hire them for any particular reason or just a spur of the moment kind of thing?” When he didn’t respond, she took in a sharp breath. “Oh. Oh my God.”
Jughead knelt before her as the waiter placed down their milkshakes and awkwardly walked away, trying not to ruin the moment.
“Betty Cooper. I wanted to do something special. Something extravagant because you deserve the best. And now I do realize my original plan just wasn’t us. This is us. Going on adventures together. Drinking milkshakes at diners. Always supporting one another. So I hope you’ll go on this next journey with me. Will you make me the happiest weirdo alive, and marry me?”
Tears collected in her eyes and she nodded her head, unable to speak. She pressed her lips to his. Her hands tangled into his hair as she pulled him closer to her. “So glad you’re my weirdo,” she whispered against his lips.
Maybe Riverdale didn’t need to be a small, meaningless dot on a map. Because even though there were tragedies in her life when she lived here, it wasn’t all bad. She met her best friends here. She fell in love. And now she had just got engaged to her soulmate. Riverdale will always be the place of happiness and heartache. And Betty was finally perfectly okay with that.
