Sister’s friend dropped by the Bugis Village branch of Ji Xiang Confectionery (吉祥食品) and gotten us these Ang Ku Kuehs (红龟粿). The colourful box set (S$5) consisted of Corn (Yellow), Yam (Purple), Coconut (Green), Salted Bean (Grey) and Sweet Bean (Red). The other box of 5s red tortoise cakes (S$1 per piece) came with peanut filling.
And now for the special items. The gold foil dusting Black Durian Ang Ku Kueh cost S$3.50 each and is filled with durian puree. It is the first time I had the king of fruits in a tortoise cake. While the taste isn't bad, durian flavour is just not strong enough to warrant this a good eat. The Rainbow Peanut Ang Ku Kueh (S$3.50) is more of a marketing gimmick so this may be the only time I will be buying it as the filling is nothing fancy. I can get the red peanut version at S$2 lesser.
Forgotten to ask my sister's friend for the price of this Glutinous Rice (糯米饭). Came with whole peanuts and pieces of mushrooms. Didn't eat this as sister's friend brought it home.
